two x2s become an x3?

Rules Questions

So i've looked into the forums a few times for a few questions and i've seen reference to a rule that two x2's becomes a x3 and not an x4. I can see the logic to this but i can't find it in the books or anything. Can someone please throw the reference at me?

Thank you so much. No idea why that was so hard for me to find.

And for those who can’t quite get the logic, x2 is 100% more damage and x3 is 200% more damage. 100% + 100% = 200%

Don't think of it as x2. Think of it as (1)+1.

(1) is your base damage, and +1 is what is added with the crit. So x2+x2= (1)+1+1= x3.

It is confusing, but correct as per toastedamphibian's rules link.

The idea is as Meliador states, best to think of it's an additional 100% of damage, so two instances of an additional 100% damage would be 300% total, not 400%.
