Vindictive Bastard question

Rules Questions

is the Vindictive Bastard able to cast spells? I'm not sure how these ex-class archetypes work with everything that they don't modify.

I would think not since an ex-Paladin explicitly loses spellcasting abilities.

Grand Lodge

The ex-archetypes section specifically mentions that they're still ex-members of that class, they just get the ability to keep taking levels in that class and any ability the archetype specifies.

So nah, Vindictive Bastard still loses spellcasting.

okay, that's kinda what I thought.
So I just need another archetype that gets rid of spells and stacks with this one.

Dark Archive

I have not found a compatible archetype.

So... can the Vindictive Bastard activate Scrolls or Wands?

Hmm, good question.

Looking over the RAW of it, I'd say they can.

"To use a spell completion item safely, a character must be of high enough level in the right class to cast the spell already."

" Spell trigger items can be used by anyone whose class can cast the corresponding spell. This is the case even for a character who can’t actually cast spells, such as a 3rd-level paladin."

It makes a degree of sense; yeah, the dude lost his internal spellcasting, but these are external items that store their own power and don't get channeled through the person using them or granted by an external entity. Kind of like how if, say, Superman lost his powers (his 'spellcasting'), he could pick up and use a gun (a 'wand').

Not that he would, but you get the idea.
