Help Increasing HP (PFS)

Advice

Lantern Lodge

Hello everyone!

I wondered if anyone could suggest items / feats / traits that increase HP? This is for my PFS character who has levels in fighter. I already have toughness.

Magic Item Slots available:
Head, Vest, chest, body (can this be used on top of armor?), and wrist.

Thanks!

If you have ultimate campaign you can retrain HP, spend 3PP and some gold to get 1 HP. Repeatable for likely more than you can afford.

Tribal Scars gave HP, but they nerfed it, so I don't know if it does anymore, or if it's a pseudo-toughness. Otherwise, for feats and traits there really isn't anything that gives HP.

Favored Class Bonus gives you 1 HP/level.

For items, look into getting a Strength/Constitution Belt if you don't have it already. I'd also look into items that give temporary HP X/Day, as it's basically hit points, just not permanent hit points.

In addition to Chess Pwn's suggestion of retraining Hit points, you could retrain your class into Barbarian. While this isn't necessarily what you'd want, Barbarians do have D12 Hit Dice, which gives you more HP overall.

It might also be possible to retrain your race's Attribute Modifier from Strength (presumably) to Constitution instead, using the Racial Trait retraining method. But, since this is PFS, I doubt this is legal to do.

To answer your item question, yes, Body slots can be used in addition to both Chest and Armor slots.

I'm genuinely curious as to why you'd need more HP, when having D10 Hit Dice, a 12 Constitution (presumably), Toughness, Favored Class, and a Constitution belt (again, presumably), is somehow not enough...

Well my PC is 10th level right now and pretty optimized. At 11th level he will really come online (I started my fighter levels later than I should've) and I'm planning on taking him into higher levels.

Build at 11th level:

Race: Ifrit
Class: Level 6 Swashbuckler (noble Fencer) / Paladin 2 / Fighter (Weapon Specialist) 3

Stats:
Str 13
Dex 20 (22 with Dex belt)
Con 12
Int 10
Wis 8
Cha 16 (18 with headband)

Traits:
Blade of Mercy
Dangerously Curious
Resilient (got it from a cert)

Feats:
1st: Weapon Finesse (Scimitar)
3rd: Slashing Grace
4th(Swash): Power Attack
5th: Dodge
7th: Weapon Spec. (Scimitar)
9th: Toughness
9th(Fighter): Greater Weapon Focus (Scimitar)
10th: Shield Focus (Buckler)
11th: Haven't decided

AC: 35
HP: 98

Saves:
Fort: +16
Ref: +17
Will: +11 (+2 vs. mind affect, +1 vs. fear)

Attack: +23/+17 Adamantium Scimitar (+3)
Damage: 1d6 + 28 (on crit +22)

I feel like my AC, Attack, Damage, and saves are good but if I had my weakest it would be HP. So I was curious what methods there were to improve HP.

I was debating getting the Additional Traits feat for Defender of the Society (+1 AC) and was thinking maybe a trait existed for hp? Or do you guys think 98 works?

I will have to look into that! I do use a treasure map so am spending 4 PP every 3 adventures. Seems odd to me you can just add hp to yourself? Like what am I retraining?

I do have those but not the belt since I use that for Dex. I know I could get the one that gives a bonus to Str, Dex, and Con but find that too expensive.

If you went full Fighter you could have taken Unbreakable + eventually Diehard.

You can buy a [+2 Constitution] Ioun Stone for 11 extra hp (it costs 8k).

I may eventually take the Ioun Stone thank you for the suggestion! I forgot about them right now I just have a dusty rose prism in my wayfinder.

Unbreakable and Diehard are a little too risky to me. Also, I'd rather stick with Swashbuckler levels for the extra damage, AC, skills, and boost against mind affecting. So my remaining levels will be in swashbuckler.

I would like to point out that taking your dex belt from a +2 dex to +2dex/con would only be 6k while the ioun stone is 8k for the same net result. You also don't have the obvious rock orbiting your head as a bonus ;)

EDIT: I'd consider Combat Reflexes as your 11th level feat btw.

Hmm I may consider this as well. The belt gets much more expensive as I improve it though which was why I figured it would be more cost effective to just bump a dex +2 belt since I mainly want the dex.

I'm not a fan of the feat because I don't have reach. I know people suggest it for swashbucklers but it burns through your panache like crazy (You have to spend 1 panache point each time you try to parry). In my builds I tend to favor static boosts though so I might pick up greater shield focus for another +1 AC before combat reflexes.

I tend to spend panache every turn to either parry or use precise strike. With boots of haste I have three attacks so I generally regain 1 panache every 2 turns. Also, I tend to start combat with 1 or 2 panache burned due to boosting Diplomacy.

I think you should first upgrade the belt to +4 Dex. Then, if you can afford a +4/+4 on Dex/Con, then go for it. Otherwise, you might as well stick to the +2 Con Ioun Stone.

For the 11th level feat, I say Improved Critical (and maybe a critical feat instead of Shield Focus, such as Critical Focus, Impaling, Bleeding or Sickening Critical).

I get improved critical for free through swashbuckler weapon training. I'm saving my critical effect for blinding critical at 15th level. I plan on picking up critical focus just before that.
