Pbp

Recruitment

Looking for a group. I've got a few characters I'd like to try out. last game I was in ended up falling through after a few post in kind of a bummer and having a hard time getting in another one. Not picky on what it is.

Me too man, me too.

What are your character concepts?

I'm currently debating whether to start a PbP for one of the adventure paths. Do you have experience with any? Is there an adventure path you'd be excited to try?

I've just started in one (2 weeks ago but it has an average of 17 player posts a day!) and just offered to run one (RoTRL) as PbP and I am loving it so far.

I would like to join 1 more Adventure path game, but there are not many being offered at the moment, I wonder if there is just a lull of GMs?

I'm still new to PBP, but I've really been enjoying it. I have GMed a lot in real life and was contemplating starting a campaign up on the boards here. Mummy's Mask, probably. I haven't tried out google slides yet, for maps (as a GM), so I've been hesitant.

Is it easy, Inara? Have you tried it yet?

How do you find the time?

Google slides was really easy - I was playing with it today. You just need a google email account. I went through the Talmandor's bounty map on our RoA game and just opened a new document. When you want to share a link you just go to "file" then "share". It is pretty much a simpler version of Microsoft Powerpoint. To find the maps you can usually google them or just scan them in from the book/print screen a pdf.

The biggest thing I have found about running an AP is the overwhelming number of submissions. I have nearly have had 30 in 2 days which is a lot to read, but when the game is set up and gets going I am sure it will be great fun. If you do run an AP, I would suggest that you give it approximately 5 days submission time and not a full week like I originally did. I know Nikolaus is enjoying running Azlant a lot, but that it took a lot of time in the first few posts and doing the first map but it is now a lot less time consuming.

Good choice of AP there! Mummy's Mask is officially one of my favourites - I've ran books 1-3 in real life as a GM and I love Ancient Egypt in the real world. It is where I originally played a version of Evie (then known as O'Connell - think The Mummy cult film with Rachel Weis)

Posting once a day only takes 10 minutes a post and GMing a post (watching my husband) takes around 15-20 minutes a post. If you're aiming for 2 games to play in and 1 to GM that is around 40 minutes a day split over eating breakfast and just after getting home from work its not too bad. To be fair, I am a teacher and I am currently on half term break (2 weeks) so I have a high post count, but when I go back to school it will probably drop to 1-2 a day except Wednesdays when I wont be able to post. It helps that my husband has been on this forum for a few years so I have always seen him take the time to do it.

PFS Game Day 6 (think a big online convention) is going on right now, so many of the typical GM's are already busy running PFS games through about the end of November. As i understand it there are about 200 tables going on right now. Once those are done, there will be more GM's offering for things, I believe.

As far as new GM's, I would suggest you start with something small. A PFS scenario or one-shot module will usually take about 2-3 months of GMing, and get you some good experience working with the tools of the trade before you make a full commitment to an AP. Those may take years to play out in the PBP world.

As an experienced GM on the boards, let me know if I can be of any help to you if you take the leap! Best of luck.

Thanks, guys!

I originally thought about running the first module for the Falcon's Hollow adventures, and then if it went well offering to continue it for the rest of the books, but I'm already running a Mummy's Mask, campaign in real life (among others), so I figured it'd be easier to run something I've already prepared like crazy. I know it's a big commitment.

Yeah, I really enjoy Mummy's Mask. It's great fun. The beginning is quite tough, though. The groups I ran it for in real life had trouble with resources trying to get through each of the lottery locations in one go. In all fairness, though, I run a three person party at home. Haha.

The minute I read Evelyn's character background I knew exactly who she was inspired by. Awesome! I love it and her (both your Evie and and Rachel's)!

Sorry to get so off topic on the thread here, guys. If I end up starting a campaign I'll be sure to post in here to let you know.

I see some of you also submitted for Inara's RotRL, so best of luck! Maybe I'll get to play with you there!

When I've done it we cleared the first one in one go, in a real world month - which is incredible going for a Pbp. We had a fighter, a swashbuckler, a rogue, an inquisitor and a wizard so the party was well suited. Also we had hero points which helped the fighter avoid death and gave us the boost to beat the boss fight in the tomb - so it was close and we couldn't have done it without the hero points, but a great experience! :)

That game has actually led me to quite like hero points - particularly for dungeon heavy games like MM1.

Ive got a drow oracle, human bard/street performer, and a human hunter/pack master I've been wanting to try out.only played a few table top games. If anyone is looking to start a game im down for any adventure and can make adjustments to fit.

Hey folks. Just wanted to hop in and say that my campaign's recruitment phase is still in its infancy, so if any of you wanted to try Dungeon World out, you're welcome to give my Monstrous Races campaign a shot. It's homebrew and the system is very simple and easy to pick up.

Otherwise, have fun with your Mummy's Mask campaign, that looks fun too.

I would like to join and I'm new to Pbp and would love to start playing Pbp how do I join?

Chadwick....welcome to the boards!

One thing to take notice of is the date of the last post...in this case 3 years ago

That said, take a look at this post, an excellent summary of how PbP works here: post

Welcome on board, Chadwick. The guide that Spazmodeus linked to is great, well worth a thorough read. Pbp can be a lot of fun once you know how to get the most from it.
