Knights Inheritor Troop Damage Calculation

The troop unit from Pathfinder #108 is a great way to represent multiple units on the battlefield without using the mass combat rules, allowing players to still play their characters.

However, I'm having difficulty with the Glorious Reclamation troop variant CR 15 Knights Inheritor damage calculation.

Knights Inheritor Troop (CR 15): This unit includes a handful of mounted knights inheritor among its number, each equipped with a lance. A knights inheritor troop has a speed of 40 feet and reach of 10 feet. The troop deals 3 × its troop damage if it moves at least 10 feet before making a troop attack.

Does this mean this troop deals (6d6+9)x3 damage? That's an average of 90 damage per round, no saving throw, no attack roll needed. Seems like a very overpowered amount of damage for its CR, essentially killing any PC without flight.

Am I reading this correctly?


I don't see it too powerful, we're talking about knight with lance charging into combat.

Just think of all the way this can be counter. ( We're talking about PC of level 12 of higher right? )


Yep, we're looking at this vs. a group of five 13th level PCs, fully rested and with appropriate WBL equipment.

The simple monster creation benchmarks put a CR 15 creature's attack for two big natural attacks at +24 attack bonus, average 39 damage each hit. Assuming we're hitting against a normal AC range for a 13th level melee character it's gonna be vs. AC 28. So 85% chance on both attacks, total average damage per benchmark of 66.3 damage per round.

Given the Knights Inheritor troop deal nearly 150% of the average damage per round of the benchmark value, I'm worried it's too much to handle. Their hit points and AC are where they should sit per benchmarks, but damage seems awfully high. I'm worried I'm calculating this wrong.

Edit: Nevermind, I figured out that a creature with the Powerful Charge combat option per the basic creation rules would deal an extra 50% on a charge. Right on the benchmark!
