Working thru the numbers for a socerer / dragon disciple

Rules Questions

I constantly find myself questioning whether I've got the number right when it comes to caster level/class level/etc. I hoping that some kind soul could take a look and verify that my numbers are correct.

I have a 8th crossblooded (bronze dragon/abyssal) sorcerer/9th level dragon disciple (bronze). He has magical knack (sorcerer), and robes of arcane heritage. Putting aside whether you believe that crossblooded allows me to qualify to take dragon disciple levels, are the following statements correct?

1) Spells per day as if 14th level sorcerer (8 sorc+6 DD), with a caster level of 16th level (+2 from magic knack).
2) Spells known as if 14th level sorcerer with -1 spell per spell level penalty for being crossblooded
3) Bloodline powers as if 21st level (8 sorc + 9 DD + 4 Robes)(or is it capped at 20)
4) Access to bloodline bonus spells as if 21st level as long as I have appropriate level spell slots

Thanks for any clarification.

1. Correct.
2. Correct.
3. Only the draconic bloodline is affected by dragon disciple. Your abyssal bloodline powers would be 12th, and your draconic bloodline powers would indeed be 21st (Although that basically only helps your breath weapon power), although your GM is free to cap it at 20th.
4. Robe of arcane heritage doesn't affect your bonus spells, and Magical Knack only gives a class a caster level bonus, which does not increase your effective class level for the purposes of learning new spells. Your bloodline bonus spells would still be 17th.

My advice? Pick up Favored Prestige Class and Prestigious Spellcaster to get back that one effective casting level to get 9th level spells.

It was FAQ'd, actually.

You're good as long as your GM says so.

Not sure that I agree with this. Crossblooded replaces you're bloodline with a mixture of 2 bloodlines. You pick and chose which of the powers you want. At the rather hefty price of a spell slot per level, and lower will saves. If DD is allowed, and the FAQ clearly states that it is, then I don't see why it's benefits should be split simply because DD was written prior to the crossblooded archetype and you don't have two separate bloodlines to split.

You don't suddenly get to pick and choose what dragon disciple applies to simply because one of your crossblooded bloodlines is draconic.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Crossblooded is just one bloodline, DD boosts your bloodline, thus it works. Your bloodline is lv21, that bloodline is both draconic and abyssal and the powers are what you choose.

That is certainly how I read it. You have one bloodline, not two. Mechanically you have to make choices because you pick from both bloodlines, but you don't have two separate and distinct bloodlines.

Follow on question that I have is due to being a 14th level crossblooded sorcerer, I have 0 known 7th level, with 3 7th level spell slots. Do the bonus spells count against the number of known spells or are they truly bonus spells? As 17th level (8 sorc + 9 DD) for the purposes of bloodline spells, and having 3 7th level slots does that mean I get to have either greater teleport or Form of Dragon II which are the bonus bloodline spells for 15th level, both are 7th level spells and I have spell slots. Note that the 17th level bonus spells are unavailable because I don't have 8th level spells slots. Further more could I take the other 7th level bonus spell for 17th level as it states that you can take a lower level bonus spell instead of the current bonus spell.

bonus spells are truly bonus spells known.
