Diabolist cannot worship Asmodeus?

So from the new write up of the Diabolist PrC, they can't worship Asmodeus, can they?

In Book of the Damned the PrC was rewritten with a few extra requirements that I think preclude a worshiper of Asmodeus from taking the class.

Well, I'd be happy to provide an opinion if you would give some details.

It may be the line about how the diabolist "must worship an archdevil, infernal duke, or malebranche". Asmodeus is a deity, so he's not technically one of those.

He belongs to the pantheon of archdevils, is described as the greatest of the archdevils, and is the King of Hell. I'd say anyone who tries to split hairs on this one is wrong.

Nvm, I forgot to check whether or not Asmodeus has a Fiendish Obedience or not. He does. So it just means another feat my cleric has to take.

Asmodeus is an archdevil /and also/ a deity. So, you can totally worship him. That's not an issue.

The real issue is that Asmodeus' Fiendish Boons are crap.

You have to work your way up. You are the guy in the mail room that has to listen to the orders of the middle manager.

Hell is about order, and you should work for the department you work in. Every department answers to the top management.

Of course, this is just my initial thoughts on the matter. The likely answer stated above is 'Asmodeus is also an archdevil'.

I did a writeup of all the Diabolical Boons from BotD last month. You can find it right here. If you don't want to pick through all of them, go to the very last couple of posts -- that's where they get TLDRed down to the best choices.

Asmodeus, alas, is not one. As noted above, his Boons are pretty crap. You might expect the Lord of Darkness to have the most awesome Boons, but this is not the case. I think this was a poor design choice myself, but I guess you could justify it in-game by saying he wants his worshippers to feel the struggle.

You have to WORK YOU WAY UP to groveling at Asmodeus' feet/hooves. You better get prepared to brown nosed every devil even a single rank above you before you get to a level where Asmodeus even bothers to look at you in disdain.

Probably. I've already admitted that I don't really know what I am talking about.

I am mostly just going off with my own imagination on a tangent with justifications for the loophole. Because it sounded interesting.

It would only make sense in some alternate universe where Asmodeus isn't worshiped and instead there's a religion called Diabolism that he wants you to be involved with instead.

But we live in a world where Asmodeus is worshiped and Diabolism has acquired "fire cancer" and no longer exists.
