Blade Tutor's Spirit and Large Weapons

Rules Questions

So since a player in the campaign I'm in argues that Blade Tutor's Spirit reduces penalties from wielding a weapon that's too large for you, I have decided to get more opinions on it.

I would argue that it's not a self inflicted penalty like Power Attack, or Two-Weapon Fighting, and thus is not reduced by Blade Tutor's Spirit.

Thoughts?

First relevant text.
When you voluntarily use one or more actions or feats that apply penalties to attack rolls with your melee weapons.

Inappropriately Sized Weapons: A creature can’t make optimum use of a weapon that isn’t properly sized for it. A cumulative –2 penalty applies on attack rolls for each size category of difference between the size of its intended wielder and the size of its actual wielder. If the creature isn’t proficient with the weapon, a –4 nonproficiency penalty also applies.

Okay so the spell says that it helps with actions or feats that causes penalties to your melee attacks. While the Inappropriate Sized Weapon does indeed give a penalty to your melee attack it is not an action nor a feat.

As such I do not believe that the spirit will aid you if you are using such a weapon. Nor do I believe that it would help with the to hit penalty that you are given by using a broken weapon.

Doesn't work for reasons mentioned by Diviner.

Your player is incorrect.

As the others have said, you are correct and your player is not. Things like Power Attack, Two-Weapon Fighting, Staggering Assault, Spell Combat, or even a Shocking Grasp with the Shocking Amplification feat are aided, but not things like inappropriately sized weapons, debuffs, or the Zealous drawback.
