Posted this in questions and was told it was the wrong spot, so thought I would repost my question over here
I KNOW there are a lot of options in Pathfinder, some better or worse than others, but I am having some basic troubles with a couple of things about Alori (spelling I know)...I just feel like I am missing SOMETHING...
First the sword itself: It is basically just a long sword, that IF you have Weapon Finesse and Exotic Weapon you can use the two together? Just seems like with Slashing Grace (which does take one more feat, that you probably want) it is the same thing...
Second the Alori Artistry Feat, seems the Improved feats are more effective...MAYBE it is the difference in prereqs...better for some builds, but in the end the "Improved" also preventing AoO seems to make it SO MUCH better...
Again What I really am asking is "Am I Missing Something?"

You can't use Slashing Grace with a longsword unless you're a Swashbuckler or Daring Champion or Virtuous Bravo or a Fighter with the Fighter's Finesse AWT. Really, unless you really want one of the Aldori style feats or Aldori Mastery, there's no real reason to grab EWP for it.
As far as Aldori Artistry, the big advantage is that you don't need to take Combat Expertise. Combat Expertise is a feat tax, but the Dirty Fighting feat counts as Combat Expertise for prereqs.
The Aldori dueling sword seems cool from the setting's fluff, but mechanics work against making an effective Aldori duelist.

Why can't you use longsword with Slashing Grace as a fighter?
It requires the ability to use weapon finesse with a long sword. Slashing grace makes it count as a piercing weapon and deal Dex to damage. Fighters don't necessarily gain the swashbuckler finesse.
The feat never mentions DEX to attack.

@Jason Wedel It in no ways makes the weapon usable with weapon finesse. It only gives it dex to damage.
The reason a longsword is listed as an example is because there are abilities that can make a weapon like a longsword finessable. The Swashbuckler's Finesse combined with Slashing Grace for example.

You actually can use Slashing Grace with a longsword. It doesn't require the weapon be finesable.
The issue is that you now have strength to hit and dex to damage. Which is silly and not useful.
Wow...NEVER noticed that before, I always assumed that it became a Finesse usable weapon (missing the light requirement...)

The best way imo, is to go human Swashbuckler level 1 for EWP (Aldori Dueling Sword) and Weapon Focus (Dueling Sword) and then go Fighter for level 2 for Slashing Grace.
This nets you dex to damage by 2 in addition to panache and parry/riposte.
Or just go human fighter for 2 levels if you don't care about Swashbuckler stuff.

A Human Rostland Bravo can grab just Weapon Focus and Slashing Grace and be fine from there.
So yeah, that's available at 1st level.

That's awesome! Hadn't seen that archetype.
