What do you do with your Gunslingers after 5th level?

Advice

As the title says, I'm genuinely curious what people do with gunslinger characters after 5th level, when pretty much everyone and their grandmother says to dump the class.

Putting this in advice because I would genuinely like to try a gunslinger at some point, just not sure what multiclass options work.

multiclass

Freebooter ranger is a nice touch.
Paladin if you're a mysterious stranger.

Inquisitor also has a nice level 1-5

In my case, I'm playing a Ratfolk Gulch Gunner archetype so I took a level of Swashbuckler to parry and riposte, and then just went on to take Weapon Master Fighter (with my chosen gun) for days to get all the rest of the ranged feats I needed.

I went Slayer with mine. Trapfinding, more skills, and studied target went well with him.

I also took him to gunslinger 8 for the dwarven favored class bonus (lower misfire chance.) I was aiming for the musket master's "you no longer misfire" ability, until that was errata'd away. grumble gruble

Eldritch archer magus the one time I played a gunslinger. Inquisitor would have had more stat synergy, but it wasn't what I wanted for him.

I took four levels of unchained rogue for odds and ends (mostly a sound option for melee combat at low-to-mid levels), but other than that I'm on 13 levels of pistolero and counting. Thought about a level of three of brawler or weapon master, but it probably won't happen.

Honestly, almost anything can work. I'm particularly partial of using Sorcerer or Wizard into Eldritch Knight; the EK approach matures a bit more slowly and plays quite differently from the Eldritch Archer (which is another great option) but in the long run will get you far superior spellcasting abilities.

Alchemist, grab extra arm once or twice so you always have a free hand for reloading.

I keep going for a while because my Pistolero is a Kobold and I want that sweet, sweet Favoured Class Bonus boosting my AC, as well as the bonus feats because I want Burrowing Shot at 9th level and picking up the Master Alchemist feat at 5th for some fun with science (unfortunately delays Precise Shot until 7th, but when I'm hitting touch AC and I only have 2 other party members, I figure I can deal). Probably gonna go into Shieldmarshal later on.
Getting to at least 7th is probably a good idea for a Pistolero anyways so that you can have Deadeye if you wind up in a position you need it.
As a Small size Pistolero (AKA getting all my real damage from bonuses), I'm gonna use a Shadowshooting weapon instead of worrying about reloading and increased misfire from cartridges. Of course, if I really need to, I can still use real ammo with it. If I'm really lucky, later on I might even get a 'url=http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/magic-weapons/specific-magic-weapo ns/pistol-of-the-infinite-sky/]Pistol of the Infinite Sky[/url]!
Maybe Eldritch Archer Magus? I can see that working pretty nicely.

Take sixth level gunslinger and ignore the people who claim it's pointless afterwards.

Prestige into shieldmarshal.
