Ptolus needs YOU! recruitment thread

Recruitment

My Ptolus game currently has three regulars: Beads, an alchemist; Shellin, an arcanist, and Kali Soy, a barbarian. We need a dedicated healer and probably someone that can get into the fight as well. Maybe a rogue or a swashbuckler.

Race matters in Ptolus, but class hardly matters. All classes except for those from the Occult Adventures book will be looked at. The team is going through the adventures in the Ptolus book, so keep that in mind.

The game is Pathfinder, and the adventures are slated to become harder. The group is looking at capturing Shulikar and have already negotiated with a ratfolk tribe.

Never heard of Ptolus before, but I'm applying anyway. How does an oracle sound?

Questions:
What do you mean by 'Race matters'?
What level?
Do you mind what kind of oracle? I would need to think about it for a few hours, and maybe hear more about what you want out of me before I could decide.

There is a specific amount of races in Ptolus. They don't have catfolk, for instance. However, if you can give me a good case for a race outside the norm, we can do it.

They are still level 1.

You can pick any oracle you need. :)

Submission:
Human Paladin (Hospitaler/Oath of Charity) VMC Cavalier Order of the Star.

He's focusing on maxing out his Lay on Hands. He joins the fight until someone is about to fall, then he keeps people up. At 4th he gains Casting and Channeling.

More details like Gold, Ability Scores, and how much backstory you'd like for submission would be great.

I know a few good rogues who just need to know if their elven kind are welcomed here. after that, shouldn't be too hard to get them into it

Yep, there are some elves in Ptolus. The usual elf is called a Shoal Elf, but that's just flavor.

Didnt have time the first time around....will try to get something together

Okay, I'm thinking nature. I'll have an animal companion and utility/heals. I'll try and submit my sheet in a few hours.

Questions: How does a gnome sound? 2 traits? Point buy or roll? How many points or dice? How much backstory detail would you like? Will it matter that I know nothing about the setting?

I feel like I'm interrogating you now. Sorry!

A1. Gnomes do just fine.

A2. 2 traits, 20 point buy, average gold starting out.

A3. Not a novel please, no not really.

Ok great. That's good to hear about backstories, I don't have anything complex in mind. Gimme a few hours, I'll see what I can make!

Here you go! That took a little longer than expected due to indecision, some wifi trouble, and real life interruption. If you accept me, I'll clean it up and make it easier to read when I transfer it to an alias.

In combat, Pyia stays back and shoots if he can or uses spells to hinder and assist, while Bo charges in and goes for the trip on whoever Pyia points to.

Background
Pyia's parents were both small town craftspeople. They were disappointed when their child was born with huge vision problems, but later became ecstatic when he showed an aptitude for healing magic. Enrolling him the rigorous clerical training program run by a local church, they forced Pyia to spend his every moment studying. Eventually, Pyia walked into the woods and never came back. Feeling far better about nature than he did about religion, Pyia wandered the woods until he found a wolf and a goblin child fighting. The 3 became friends, and Pyia lived in the woods with the wolf (later named Bo). The goblin, named Gikcli, visited them from his tribe. Pyia became adept at his natural based magic. The 3 became very close, until one day Gikcli stopped visiting. Upon visiting the tribe to look for her, Pyia found ruins and devastation. While Pyia knows that there is little chance of finding Gikcli alive, he still hopes that she might live and wanders the world looking for her with Bo at his side.

Pyia has dark green skin, eyes that seem to glow solid light green, and darker green hair which goes to his waist. He normally keeps the hair pinned in place with a huge collection of sticks, which looks painful to remove. Pyia is easygoing, but finds civilization stressful, preferring the company of golbinoids and animals. He is sociable and helpful, and dislikes attacking preemptively. Bo is a grey wolf, and very defensive of Pyia.

Would you consider allowing Spheres of Power? I've got a few ideas banging around in my head that could likely fit.

I think I miscounted skill ranks. I'm going to lose the ride rank.

Joseph Soltz wrote:

I suppose I could probably specify what I'd like to do. I want to try out spherecasting healing. With a focus on the Healing and Protection spheres I may end up picking up an offensive ability or two somewhere (maybe using channel destruction to turn Channel Energy into an offensive tool?) I'll mostly be sitting in the back, covering allies with buffs and healing. I'm thinking an Incanter, from SoP, with Channel Energy.

Edit: I forgot, neither protection nor life has received a handbook. I would likely end up focusing on Wall-type effects with Destruction for a little bit of battlefield control, and use Life talents mostly as an after-measure, only using them in combat in an emergency.

Joseph Soltz wrote:

Nope. The game is already going on. I'm not adding Spheres of Power on top of it. And yes, I already have the book.

Not a problem! I'll see if I can come up with an alternate concept; the one I had was fairly ill-fit together anyway.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

I so want to play in a Ptolus game. Is it a bonus or penalty that I run a Ptolus game here on the Paizo boards?

Tarondor wrote:

It could be. I'd like to get this Ptolus game through the Banewarrens and the Night of Dissolution. Your entry will certainly be considered though.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Given that I'm GMing a joint NOD and Banewarrens game now (each for the third time), I think I'd be a bad fit. Thank you anyway.

You players are in for a treat!

That's sad, I was going to let you in, Tarondor. But if you say so.

Just double checking, because in the first recruitment thread you said that starting level was 2, and then I checked players and they are all level 2 as well?

Same rules though?
25 point buy
2 traits, One drawback, or 1 trait.
Can't spend more than half starting wealth on 1 item.

correct.

The Exchange

I wonder if its possible to play a monstrous race redeemed by the brotherhood.

Throg Sophas wrote:

It's certainly possible.

The Exchange

While I looked at the guide besides the leader they arn't very clear on what monsters are in the game. Could you give a short list and if pathfinder doesn't have an analogous race I could just reskin one. Like if there are trolls I will just be a reskinned half-orc or orc. I do realize that I will be dealing with rudeness in game since they seem to see non natives of their own races as lesser people and I will be both not one of them and a monster.

I've only just begun to read the player's handbook and I'm already very interested.
...I never did get to really play either of my ideas for a LG dorf cleric, would a worshipper of Kurgess or Torag be possible?

Yep. You can also make up your own god if you wish.

yea. After my dinner.

Luckily I don't have to be too creative with Grilnik's diety: The Strong Man suits Grilnik quite well.
I'm thinking itinerant healer and strong-man strong-dwarf strong-dorf who has recently decided to try and help recover Dwarvenhearth, looking to help the other PCs in return for help with the old dorf fortress...

Presenting Tony Nedraid, Rogue (Swashbuckler) L1 20 point buy.

  • Goblin
  • Hobgoblin
  • Kobold
  • Ogre
  • Troll
  • Orc

Spoiler:
Splitjaw was born in a Troll encampment in the great cavern (What the Trolls called the Dungeon). A year he reached adulthood and had been given the clan tattoos he failed miserably to fight a group of adventurers getting his war pack killed. He was forced by his elders to do the cooking for the remainder of his life. Eventually he was tasked with cooking a party of adventures that were captured by the encampment. He was tasked with preparing them for cooking. A tall extra thin one spoke to him in his native tongue offering to trade a powerful secret just for taking locks of his and his companions hair and carrying it with him. Splitjaw demanded the secret first and was told if he traveled out of the village following their trail and said Ver'anis a door filled with fine weapons and food. Splitjaw agreed, killed them and then prepared their bodies. While the others were feasting on the party he snuck out and followed the man's instructions to the door. Opening it and finding it filled with food and weapons that were all his he felt a moment of regret for not living up to his side of the deal before it was squashed by his enjoyment of all the food. After filling himself to the brim he fell asleep not even waking when the door was opened and he was bound. He did wake when the large man with the iron boot kicked him in the face. Spluttering as he woke he immediately tried to attack but the ropes around him held him still. Looking around he saw an armored man, a shirtless dwarf, and a human woman wearing a sheet. After being questioned and offering only curses and threats to his captors the woman approached him and smiled as twisting words spilled out of her mouth. As he felt his will be pushed down by his smiling friend he began to answer her questions eagerly. He told her about the village the adventures and their end and how he found this place. He looked at her with a smile and a little confusion as she cocked back he arm and realized what he had done ad her fist slammed into his face. Pale and worried after his betrayal of his people he barely noticed as they talked about getting some value out of him by dragging to the Brotherhood before reporting to the delvers guild. Then he didn't notice anything at all as the armored man pulled his foot back one more time. His time at the brotherhood was long but after he learned of the destruction of his tribe he threw himself into his training and learning to try and maintain some bonds. Even abandoning his old name to become Helix and having his clan tattoo replaced with the Brotherhood's Symbol. He eventually passed the tests necessary to be allowed into the city as a free man.

Crunch to follow building him as a half-orc slayer since there is no troll race.

I am backing out as I am now part of a online ptolus game.

Okay.

Given the monstrous list above...would a harrow elf be ok?

Yes, a harrow elf will be okay.

Are you still searching for a player? I'm playing a 5e Ptolus game and might be up for a Pathfinder version. I'm thinking an angelfire apostle cleric who venerates the Malkuth. Probably human in race, I think.

As long as you can heal others, I'll consider your submission. :)

Vallus was orphaned when his parents died in a fire. At the age of six, he was given to the Lothianites to raise. He grew up a normal child, pious, but not devout, until he spotted one of the famed Malkuth from afar. The angel was flying over the city, armed for battle, and for a moment, Vallus met the angel's eyes. That was all it took. He was awed and deeply touched in his soul. He felt a sense of holiness that all his teachers' studies could not inspire in Lothian. He doubled his efforts, becoming a devoted student and modeling himself after the angel he saw. His faith beget holy powers and he became a wandering preacher, speaking of the need to model one's life after the holy example of the angels. Among the people he saw suffering and loss. He came to understand the need for the religious to do more for the people of Ptolus. While he still revels in the inspiration of the angels, he has now chosen to follow their example of action to improve lives.

Time to choose.

I choose Vallis Morgan and Tony Nedraid. Please post in the gaming thread as soon as possible so I can get your characters integrated. A monologue will be a plus, but not needed.
