Racial Boon Question

My roleplaying group are considering a trip to GenCon 2018. With that in mind, our GM is planning on running our home Starfinder sessions as Starfinder Society sanctioned, with the hope that we could possibly bring our home game PC’s to Starfinder Society events in the future.

My issue is that I had my heart set on playing a Halfling Operative, a former member of the Free Captains who has put his pirating ways aside and decided to go “legit”. I have had the core PDF for a week now, and I had already rolled him up. It appears that you may require a boon to legally play a Halfling in SFS. I am unfamiliar with organized play. How would one go about acquiring a racial boon for a home campaign?

Hey Cap'n. I am currently in the same boat with my -701 gnomish envoy, Charli. Home games don't qualify for the Regional Support Program (RSP), so chances are you won't be able to earn your own boon.

That said... This community can be surprisingly generous at times. I have seen people give boons away to folks with great character concepts, just for the joy of giving a boon to someone who would really appreciate it. A plea to them in the boon trading thread might be able to garner you one, once people start earning Pathfinder legacy boons in SFS RSP games. Are you the GM? You might be able to keep your Halfling as an undeclared GM Baby until you can acquire the boon. That is what I will do with Charli. She'll stay in her GM Baby Stasis Pod until I can finally call her into active duty.

The other possibility alas is to make another character your main character and save your halfling operative for later play... I will be doing that as well with a Shirren as my -702 SFS character.

See this blog post. Thurston has implied that convention boons are not the only way to get SFS race boons. However, that doesn't help you right here and now.

It looks like one of the purchasable with fame or what ever it is now boons is a race access boon.

Alien Allies (Slotless Boon)
Your work in championing the Wayfinders’ cause introduced a new
variety of aliens into the Starfinder Society.
Prerequisites: Wayfinders Tier 4
Cost: 4 Fame
Benefit: When you select this boon, it does not apply to your
current character. Instead, select one of your Starfinder Society
characters with 0 XP. That character can select a new playable race
without needing to expend the Personal boon slot. That character
cannot slot a different race boon into the Personal boon slot, but
can slot another type of Personal boon. The rules on this new race
will appear in a future update.

I read that boon as simply freeing up the Personal Boon slot for that new character instead of having to have the race boon slotted in there.

That's correct. We want capstone boons to be truly special!

Thanks for the responses! I had already registered the character and typed up a rather long background for him. Hopefully, I can find a way to stumble into a halfling boon for our home game. Keeping my fingers crossed!
