Hey folks,
I've been to GenCon for five years running now but this is going to be the first time I've tried to get in some RPG gaming, as I've been mostly a minis gamer. I've got my badge, but because I get it through volunteering for a company I didn't get it nearly in time to register for some of the more popular stuff, like 9-00 or Starfinder. For those of you who've played at GenCon before, how likely is it that there will be openings because players don't show? Is it worth it to buy some genetic badges and linger, hoping to get into an event?

GenCon hasn't gotten QUITE to the point of having genetically coded badges YET but like others have said, show up, give it a shot.
That being said, show up earlier rather than later for a given slot, and be polite and respectful of the hall captains and your mustering personnel.
It'll be a long weekend and a lot of crush, so patience will be at a premium.
Groups that have 'real' badges will be seated first, then any stragglers with 'real' badges, then generic tickets. Ideally, if all goes well, you'll be seated within five minutes of slot start on either side of it.
Hope you can make it!
