Seeing the PDF preview for the Nexus, something I usually don't think about came to mind. The layout work is exceptional! I love the way the text sits in front of the smoke from the Nexus Iconic art. Usually art and text overlapping bugs me, but this was tasteful.
Well, the Nexus is at 50 veils right now and Akashic Mysteries only had 75...
Moar veils! MOAR! But in all seriousness, the Nexus pleases me. The class itself is pretty straightforward which lets me enjoy the complexity of veils more.
Also the preview art for the judow is my child I love.
Seriously its cool art. Anything you can reveal about their abilities? They look absa-tively deadly.

The Nexus certainly earns its place alongside the current Akashic classes, even in its early Playtest state...I love the synergy between the various veils in the Convergence 'packages', and with every new veil available to at least one of the other Akashic classes, it greatly expands the playstyle options of those classes!
As an example, the original Vizier veil selection leaned the class slightly towards evil characters; Two of the five Vizier-exclusive Ring slot veils have the evil descriptor, as well as the Vizier exclusive Heart of the Wight, while the only Vizier veil with the good descriptor is the Loyal Paladin's Spear of Light...this is remedied by five of the ten new veils associated with the Heavens being open to Viziers.
In closing, you knocked it out of the park again, Ssalarn...to everyone else, if you haven't backed the amazing City of Seven Seraphs kickstarter yet, you definitely should!
Thank you for the kind words! Supporting the existing akashic classes was definitely something I wanted to make sure continued to happen as I worked on new materials, so getting to take that library of veils from Akashic Mysteries and increase it by almost 70% while also debuting a new class was a real privilege.

I think Liz definitely did a great job with the layout design! And yeah, I definitely wanted the Nexus chassis to be as simple and straightforward as possible so that there wasn't a big clutter to sort through between veils and class features. The Nexus is probably the most straightforward and accessible akashic class I've written yet, using a simple warlock/kineticist style framework that you can build off of with your veils and convergences to make a character who's as simple or complex as you really want. I've got a Heavens/Angelic Armaments character whose character sheet and tactics entries are actually even more straightforward than the last Fighter I played!
I concur with Bahumut. The Nexus is great, the fact that the new veils are also an expansion of the existing classes is even better.
I likely would have backed this without the Akashic material, but they made it a must buy for me.
Great job, Ssalarn!
Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it!

Will this book play well with the Planar Adventures book that was just announced? Is it designed exclusively for high level play or can low to mid level adventures happen there as well?
It certainly should work well with the Planar Adventures book. I think that we even have some of the same designers!
While there is lots of high level content in Co7S, you'll be able to run low to mid-level adventures there as well. It's going to have a similar function to Sigil from the Planescape books if you're familiar with those. It's also going to be loaded with options for characters of all levels, including feats, spells, powers, and new base classes (last I checked we were up to 3 new classes).

I have been reading the kickstarter page. The Planejamming write up looks interesting. Are the ships an item like a spelljamming helm or is there a different mechanic?
The shadeships are powered by Orrery Engine which take power or life force (in the form of spells, power points or Con damage) and heighten the will of the user to be able to visualize so powerfully they can achieve super-luminal speeds and collocation between other planes. While similar to the arcane ships of prior editions they will have some of their own flavors. The Coinspinner herself also is a biological construct and has additional oddities.

So we are looking at something that A) Can be used by non-spellcasters and B) Can be used to travel dimensions and planets?

I should just create a 2nd avatar for this thread and name it "Broken Record", but...jesus, another cool artist on that Coinspinner ship. How do you do it?!
I liked reading about the Undreamt, too.
I know the feeling. I'm working on the project and I still keep finding myself going "Holy crap, that's the best thing I've ever seen!" on like a daily basis. Christen is absolutely not skimping on the art here.

Seraphs (shouldn't the plural be Seraphim?) would suggest a Celestial influence wouldn't it?
Hard to say, since it doesn't really exist as a concept in regular Pathfinder...well, Szuriel is called the Seraph of Destruction, but she's a Horseman of the Apocalypse...but I doubt it's related. So could be almost anything depending on how they define the term.
Also, I believe seraphs is as legitimate a plural form as seraphim.

We elected to use Seraphs because each of the Seraph statues are unique. They stand as equals but are in themselves balances of specific Duality and symbols of Unity. In the numerology of the City the number Six represents Union, a effort by two triads of Power (the numerological assign of Three) brought together. Each Seraph has six wings to symbolize this. The origins of the morphology of the statues are also likely rooted in the deep-seated resentment of the City's Eternals (divine ascendants) toward the Divinities' (classical fantasy RPG Gods) appropriation of a more ancient divine physiology. Without threatening core mysteries of the City, that's as far as we're willing to go right now on the subject.

I was wondering who are the primary denizens of this city. For example, with Dis you have Devils, with the city of Brass you have Efreets, and Sigil was a gentle blend of the planes.
Also I really hope some of the stretch goals open up. I look forward to some more spells from Wolfgang especially!
While the City is quite cosmopolitan there are races with slightly greater representation. The City's original settlers, the fade (a population of fetchlings), are in decline at the time presented in the book. There are large populations of planetouched, shadow fey (see Kobold Press' Advanced Race Compendium), judow (see our blog for this), revenants, Endzeitgeist's mystery race (which is looking wicked cool), and well a few things we have perhaps still hiding behind Shadow Lock puzzles for the backers to solve. But stay tuned there are definitely a couple surprises coming.

HellBilly |

The more I read about this project the more excited I get. I will admit I have not done much with the plane of shadow, but now that I have been reading your lost spheres page and thinking of what has been teased in the book I am wanting the book yesterday.
I was wondering are there going to be any materials that come exclusively from the shadow realm. A for instance would be the green steel of planescape.

Don't know if anyone's seen the latest update or the blog post yet, but the book is now officially going to include a playable race of planar spiders (as long as it funds of course!), so that's cool. And the art is pretty slick.

"Awesome" meet "sauce".

yep, sounds cool. Still don't understand how that can be the solution to the Shadow Lock Puzzle, but so far I didn't even find a starting point for one of the puzzles, so I'm just glad that other people are more inventive than me. :)
I followed it as far as the invisible poem on one of the old blog posts out of curiosity but didn't have time to drill through the clues any farther. Plus it didn't seem appropriate for someone on the design team to solve it :P

Yes, the Orrery Drives of the Foreseen Parity catalyze supernatural energy that can be drawn from spell energy, psychic power pools, and failing all else, the lifeforce of the user. "The lifeforce of the user"... Will veilweaving classes be able to take essence burn or bind essence into the ship in lieu of spending spell slots or power points, or will they need to take Con damage like the other non-casters?

I need the veryx in my life. I notice the art specifically calls out that veeyx as male too! Makes me wonder how females may appear.
Since Nature Channel is a thing...
The female is likely notably lager, at least one size category, if not more. The males wander, the females keep to their webs. Going the way of intelligence, I suspect the females are the source of long term stratagems, and the males are the gatherers. The males go out and bring back things to give them social/reproductive status. I rather doubt the males really know that much about what the females goals are, nor do they care overmuch.

@ Daw: I had to laugh at myself when I spent too many seconds pondering where the "Nature Channel" feat was in PF. D'oh!
@ Hellbilly: I'm sure Lost Spheres Publishing (LSP) will speak up, but what I found drew me even more to this project was, beyond the cool art and story elements on the KS page, check out the project blog posts on the website for LSP itself. Lots more cool art, w/ very flavorful snippets of the topic at hand.
Maybe your gaming buddies will get inspired that way.

Based on my understanding, which is not particularly better than most anyone else's, that's mostly true, but I got the impression somewhere that the males are going to be more clever and suited to spellcasting, though the females being larger is spot on as I understand it.

Daw, we too are found of the Nature Channel. And yes, the females are a size category larger than the males. Their stat array is more suited to melee combat than their male counterparts. These creatures are related to the chelicerae (from the Midgard Bestiary) and aranea and as such they have an unusual relationship with spellcasters. This relationship is different for each of the biologies of the race.
As new generations are born under the Radia, the emergence of a reverse dimorphism has resulted in small females and medium males, Steamwalkers and Chrysalis Covenant members attribute this to the Duality charged magic of the area. This new mutation are often with a pale coloration nearing that of bone. This mutation is still very rare but seems to breed true within the City.

If you aren't able to pledge to the Kickstarter personally, you can still help the campaign by sharing it with your friends and helping to spread the word! <3

Aphora’s Belt of Fire
Descriptors: none
Class: Guru, ???????, Vizier
Slot: Belt
Saving Throw: Reflex
While Aphos studied darker paths, his twin Aphora reveled in the light and chaos of Fire’s purity.
While this veil shaped you gain a 5 ft. aura that causes any creature possessing an attack that can inflict poison or disease on a creature (such as an ettercap or mummy) to take 1d6 points of fire damage whenever they enter a square adjacent to you or when you end your turn adjacent to them (Reflex half). In addition, the duration of any poison or disease effect you suffer is reduced by 1 round. Poisons and disease whose effects are measured in longer durations such as hours or days (such as mummy rot) are instead reduced by an amount equal to 1 instance of their normal frequency. Effects that normally do not expire after a set duration are treated as having a duration equal to their frequency multiplied by 20.
Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil the fire damage dealt to poisonous or disease-bearing is increased by 1d6 and the duration of poisons and diseases you suffer is reduced by 1 additional round or unit of frequency.
Chakra Bind (Belt): [G17, ?15, V16] While this veil is bound to your Belt chakra you gain the ability to summon up a chariot of flame. The chariot occupies the same amount of space as a Huge creature and can carry you and up to 4 other Medium creatures (or 8 Small creatures, or 2 Large creatures) and possesses a fly speed of 60 ft. + 10 ft. per point of essence invested with perfect maneuverability. Any creature carried by the chariot gains fire resistance equal to 10 + 10 per point of essence invested as long as they are within the chariot. The chariot moves as you command it but requires your move action to do so. Any creature or object who moves through a square adjacent to the chariot or ends their turn adjacent to it takes 1d6 points of fire damage + 1d6 per point of essence invested. The chariot can be used to light flammable objects, such as ship’s sails, on fire by passing adjacent to them.
Ceradon’s Eternity
Descriptors: None
Class: Daevic, ???????, Vizier
Slot: Body, Chest
Saving Throw: none
Ceradon chose Eternity that he could love Hyandil always, and was rewarded with an eternity of regret.
Shaping this temporal veil grants you the powers of eternity itself. You gain the ability to place yourself or a willing touched creature in a state of temporal stasis, preventing any negative effects with a recurring frequency (such as disease, poison, or bleed damage) from occurring; this effect also blocks effects that heal over time, such as fast healing or regeneration, but not instantaneous effects such as a cure light wounds spell. You can only have one creature affected by this ability at a time and its effects remain in place as long as this veil is shaped. Suppressing or sundering the veil ends this protection. If this ability ends for any reason, including you willingly ending it as a free action, any effects immediately resume from the point they were at when the ability was first used.
Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil you may apply its effects to one additional creature.
Chakra Bind (Chest): [D19, V18] Binding this veil to your Chest chakra gives you greater control over the forces of eternity. While you or another creature is affected by the temporal stasis effect, negative conditions continue to move at their normal frequency but the protected creature is immune to their effects (so a poisoned creature would still be entitled to saving throws at the normal intervals but would not suffer the consequences of failing a saving throw, and the poison would continue to run its course expiring at the normal time). In addition, you may take a point of essence burn as an immediate action to attempt to counter a time-based spell such as haste, slow, or time stop.
Chakra Bind (Body): [D20, ?18, V20] In addition to the effects of your Chest chakra, binding this veil to your Body chakra protects you from the ravages of time. Each hour you have this veil shaped rejuvenates you, reducing your age by 1 year until you reach your minimum age for adulthood. Benefits for having reached a certain age, such as bonuses to your mental ability scores, are retained but can only be gained once regardless of how often you reach an older age category. In addition, you gain regeneration equal to 5 + the number of points of essence invested in this veil; this regeneration can only be suppressed by suppressing or disjoining this veil.
Hyandil’s Flowered Crown
Descriptors: none
Class: Guru, Nexus, ???????, Vizier
Slot: Head
Saving Throw: none
Though she loved Ceradon most of all, all love fled Hyandil upon Aphos’s betrayal and Maelwyn’s death. Flowers that once spoke of life and joy now marked promises of death.
Shaping this regal veil crown’s your head in brilliant flowers of every color imaginable. You gain a +2 insight bonus to Diplomacy checks and are under the effects of a speak with plants spell for as long as this veil is shaped. You may use Diplomacy to influence creatures of the plant type regardless of their Intelligence; you still cannot convince a plant to perform an action it would not be capable of performing.
Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, the insight bonus to Diplomacy increases by +1.
Chakra Bind (Head): [G8, N6, ?6, V6] Binding this veil to your Head chakra fills the crown with verdant life, granting you the ability to breathe life into a tree and transform it into a treant (use the statistics for a treant presented in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Bestiary). You can only have one treant formed in this way at a time. For every point of essence invested in this veil, the treant gains an additional 5 hit points and a +1 insight bonus to attack rolls, armor class, damage rolls, and saving throws.

Ack Ssalarn, Why do you do these things to me. I decide to play Veilcrafter and learn about a healer type you were working on and can't find it... but I do find the Nexus and this awesome Kickstarter that reveals a new type of Akashic magic... even better there will be a preview of said class. Nexus preview releases and I love it and now more teasers of things I don't have... I want!
Really though, I am so happy I tripped over the kickstarter for this. Everything, from art to writing, just seems above and beyond what I would normally expect from a third party publisher that I had never heard of before. I eagerly await all this new stuff... though I will probably be done playing my character by then.
One final thing Ssalarn, I have no idea if you ever look back at the idea of the Akashic healer you mentioned a while ago (I forget the name you used at the time) but if you do know there is at least one guy here who would pay for it. Multiclassing bites : ) And so few veils lend themselves to healing the actual veilweaver much less anyone else.

I'm not saying that there might be the possibility of an akashic healer class in this book, but look at the veils I teased, notice the question marks, and ask yourself what kind of class might want nature-themed and status mitigation veils. If you follow me.

We had hoped not to address this so publicly but she is very sensitive about her helmet. The only thing she is more touchy about is her spinneret gown...
In all honesty we asked Vincent to portray her wearing gear like a normal melee fighter would have, so her abdominal scalemail, leg-blade vambrances and her helmet-crown are all part of that. We like to imagine she won the helmet in a gladiatorial pit lending to its "Queen of the Ring" look.
But if you want something different you can check out today's PC race preview: Xodai, the living-prisons
