How to excorsize a character

Advice

If a character is possessed by a demon lord, like Pazuzu, how would you go about excorsizing them?

I believe occult adventures has a ritual to do this that anyone could do.

Is this hypothetical offer did it really happen? Info about the party make up (classes, level, builds, etc.) would help.

Dispel evil (or dispel chaos) is the usual go-to for these situations. But against a demon lord, expect an astronomically high caster level check DC.

Elven witch (possessed pc)
Halfling barbarian/sorcerer/eldritch knight
Human ranger
Gnome alchemists

They are 11th level

Did you look up the rules for Pazuzu's possession? It tells you a couple of ways you can do it.

Quote:
As a swift action, he can cause the creature to perform any ability it can perform on its own. Pazuzu can use any of his spell-like abilities through a possessed target, with the effects resolving as if the possessed creature had created the effect. Possession is permanent, but Pazuzu can only possess one creature at a time. When Pazuzu isn’t actively controlling the target, it can take its own actions. Dispel chaos or dispel evil ends this possession effect as if it were an enchantment spell, but unless the caster of the spell succeeds at a DC 30 caster level check, as a swift action Pazuzu can attempt to possess the caster as he is driven out of the target. A creature possessed by Pazuzu is immune to protection from evil, magic circle against evil, and any similar effects. The save DC is Charisma-based.

By the way, protection from evil will prevent Pazuzu from possessing you in the first place, but wont do anything after you've been possessed.

Now that you know the proper way to do it, here's some things to have NPCs suggest:

  • Leeches.
  • Locking the character in sweat-lodge or smokehouse and sweating the demons out.
  • Smacking the victim on the behind repeatedly with a holy symbol to drive the demon out.
  • Prayer.

Yeah, if it's specifically Pazuzu that's possessed the character, go with the specific rules for that ability.

Otherwise, if it's using homebrew or Occult possession rules, there's a few other options. Per the Occult possession rules, the basis for creature possession is the Magic Jar spell. Anything that disrupts a creature under the Magic Jar spell should also apply to possession.

There's a spell unique to the Inquisitor class called Cast Out that's specifically for this situation. The spell itself is terribly, horrifically niche and almost no Inquisitor would prepare this daily, but if you have one in the group or someone who can UMD a scroll of it, it should fix your problem after a few tries. Hopefully it doesn't also kill them as well from the damage, but that's part of the fun.

CAST OUT
School
abjuration; Level inquisitor 3
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, DF
Range touch
Target creature touched
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw Will partial; Spell Resistance yes
With a melee touch attack you blast a single creature and disrupt any magic controlling it. The target takes 2d8 points of damage + 1 point per caster level (maximum +15). In addition, you make a dispel check against any magic jar effect (including a ghost's malevolence ability) or enchantment (compulsion) spells on the target creature, starting with the highest level spells and proceeding to lower level spells. Treat this as a targeted dispel magic spell, except cast out can dispel one such spell for every four caster levels you possess. A successful Will save halves the damage and limits the dispelling to a single spell or effect.

Spell Possession: The primary source for possession mechanics was the magic jar spell.

Creatures that use magic jar can often use the new possession spell instead.

I think posession has supplanted magic jar as the basis spell.
