Feat "Expanded Studies" says you can use a "Wand of Summon Nature's Ally VII". What?

Expanded Studies:
Source Advanced Class Origins
You’re part of a group or organization with access to greater magical mysteries than you understand yourself, and you have learned from your colleagues’ eldritch expertise.

Prerequisites: Wis 17, hunter or warpriest level 16th.

Benefit: You add 7th-level spells to your spell list for purposes of using spell completion and spell trigger magic items. If you’re a hunter, you add 7th-level druid spells to your list. If you’re a warpriest, you add 7th-level cleric spells to your list. This doesn’t give you the ability to cast spells of this level, only to act as though your spell list included them when using appropriate magic items.

For example, a 16th-level hunter has access to druid spells of only 1st to 6th levels. Thus, the hunter can’t use spell completion or spell trigger magic items of druid spells of 7th level or higher without succeeding at a Use Magic Device check. If the hunter takes Eldritch Studies, she doesn’t gain the ability to cast 7th-level druid spells, but she could use a scroll of heal or a wand of summon nature’s ally VII without needing to attempt a Use Magic Device check.

Is this an errata allowing higher level spells to be made into wands, or did somebody mess up?

Somebody just messed up. It's definitely not a change in how wands have worked. You can still only make wands of spells up to 4th level.

Consequently, this feat is pretty terrible I think. Congratulations, you can use scrolls of spells that would have been on your spell list if you cast higher level spells...

Meh, I'd rather invest in UMD.

it means you can use spell completion items with seventh lvl spells.
Normally to use an item with out need of Use Magical device, the spell has to be one available to cast under normal conditions, for these two classes, divine spells 0-6 are fine, but those of 7th lvl or higher would require a UMD check as they are not available to cast, but with expanded studies, you may use devices with 7th lvl spells as if you normally had access to those spells. You are correct about wands being limited to 4th lvl or lower, but Staves and Spell scrolls also are spell completion devices as are certain other unique magic items.
the part about wand of natures ally should have probably been a staff.

Several staves have 7th level spells. Is it worth a feat to cast aniamate plants from a staff of the woodlands on your hunter without an umd check? Probably not. But it has a use.
