Wild shape / Plant Shape

Rules Questions

I understand it says it takes the Shape spell of what it is but....how exactly does that work? Do I get all the class abilities? or just what the Shape spell says i get? What about your stats? Do they change since you transformed to the stats of the thing you turned into? If I Plant Shape into something like an Algoid, can I animate Trees? or an Alraune, do I get its stats/hp/abilities etc etc?

The Exchange Owner - D20 Hobbies

Just what the shape spell gives you as modified by the stat bonuses the shape spell gives you.

Animate Trees is in the shape spell list?
Ignore the HP, stats, skills, etc from Algoid etc.

essentially it works like polymorphing, and those rules give a pretty clear picture of what is gained and lost and what is still active as far as gear and what becomes innate

You only get what the spell says you get. Your stats don't change to the stats of the shape you're taking. You do get the natural attacks of your new form.

A PDF guide to polymorphing.

So basically, if I transform into an Alraune, i get NONE of the plant abilities, only if it has like constrict etc etc
....that kinda sucks i guess but then again turning into a 19 HD Plant at 4th level i guess would be OP

It used to work like you thought in 3.5, as a fun fact.

Its actually still pretty good if you can find the right things to change into and plan properly

In that case, is it better to focus on Spellcasting or Melee via Wildshape/Plantshape? I have the stats to technically do both at the same time.
