Re: Current PFS Survey

About the survey on the blog post (found HERE for those that have missed it), I think an opportunity for "least favorite season" was missed. I can understand not wanting to be negative or maybe that's not the information you were looking for, but I still think that kind of feedback would have been useful.

For instance, I probably would have picked 7 or 8 and the reasoning would have been "I really really don't like the recent trend for incredibly difficult/deadly scenarios that's been increasing over the last couple years".

The Exchange 3/5

There's recent incredibly deadly and difficult scenarios!? I need a list so I can get on that.

I think we should have asked for character race. Missed opportunity.

Comments like these could benefit from a little bit of additional information.
How would you judge the level of system mastery in on the tables you play at? (1-10)
How important is creating optimized/strong characters for you and the players in your region?
How often do deaths happen?
How often don't you get the second PP?
What is too difficult in scenarios (skill DCs, combat encounters, other)
How would you judge your GMs ability to run the scenarios properly (are they proficient enough to run the monsters sufficiently, do they tend to ignore written tactics to make the scenario tougher)?

Would you list a couple of scenarios that were just right when it comes to difficulty and those where they have crossed the line in your opinion?

---

Personally, I come from a region where I can appreciate the current difficulty level, we have a couple of remorseless powergamers so it is nice to see a challenge.
Of course, we also have tables for newer players where it might be appropriate to give tips and maybe not run the monsters at peak efficiency so players can learn something.

Remember that there are many ways to enjoy this hobby, while the scenarios are supposed to be run as written, different groups have different needs when it comes to time management and other areas.

Edit: If survey prove popular, and from the reactions, I have been reading they might be, there is nothing stopping the PFS team from making a more detailed survey later down the line.
It really sounds like people love to tell you about their characters ^^

I have not found the Season 7 and 8 scenarios to be extremely difficult, but perhaps it was due to fortunate choices about which characters to bring (i.e., I brought my skill characters to scenarios that needed skills and brought my combat monsters where they were most useful, but the scenario blurbs helped guide my choices). I have liked the mix of challenges offered over the last two years, but I could see where not having the right skills or combat ability could make some of them less fun for others. I would not want to play a combat-oriented rogue this year (which perhaps should be subtitled, "The Year of the Amorphous Enemy").

Personally, I found the Season 4 scenarios to be the most difficult that I've played, but I have since made some characters who excel at combat, so perhaps I would not find them as deadly as I did at the time. I'll finally be getting to play "The Cultist's Kiss" and "The Waking Rune" tonight and next week, so we'll see.

In regard to what might be useful in future surveys, I think it would be good to include a comments section because a lot of the information that I would like to share does not really fit a in multiple-choice format.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm hoping that this survey gives them insight into building a better survey in the future. I've been through that pain - it's not fun to get all the data in all the wrong ways as to make it not viable for what you were actually seeking.

Concur on race. Also wish the retirement question was a bit different or clear that they were trying to find out how many 12+ hadn't gone through retirement scenarios and instead leveled past via mods/AP's (which I can only assume was the intent of that question).

The average times a character is played also skews for those of us who have too many characters. While I played one character a dozen times over a several month period one year, the fact that I've been playing that same character for 4 years resulted in almost of my answers being in the 1-5 range, excepting a char that was much more recent which barely made it to 6. Not sure if they are interested in a metric of character games played vs. player games played, though.

I'm hoping they will at least share what data they were looking for with the survey at some point, even if they don't give the results.

I've not seen any deadly encounters.

I've seen increasingly higher DC on skill checks that I've been in whole parties who can't make them with 15+.

I've also noticed much more difficulty predicting how we are supposed to react (to get full prestige.)

I'm not sure the purpose of the survey beyond raw stats of which classes get love.
What can you do with class data?
Taylor new seasons to speak to the top 6 loved classes better?
Decide which classes to nerf? Boost? Open up restricted products?

Inquiring minds wanna know!
