Shouting with Telepathy

Can a creature with the telepathy ability communicate to creatures it is unaware of by just projecting out to its range?

That is, can a telepath shout?

The creature can mentally communicate with any other creature within a certain range (specified in the creature's entry, usually 100 feet) that has a language. It is possible to address multiple creatures at once telepathically, although maintaining a telepathic conversation with more than one creature at a time is just as difficult as simultaneously speaking and listening to multiple people at the same time.

That seems to be the assumption written into the part you quoted, yes.

That said, it seems entirely reasonable that a GM could require it to be a targeted affair, considering it's an (Su) ability, and targets generally require either Line of Sight or Line of Effect or both.

I would treat it as talking. Yes you absolutely could project, but you wouldn't necessarily know a hidden character or creature was there unless they opted to respond.

Yeah, it's important to note that you can't allow this to be a "super-perception" - if it becomes that, it becomes even more powerful than anything printed anywhere else.

That it is under Languages also tends to indicate you can treat it similar to most languages.

OTOH you can always shout "I know you're there, come out where I can see you" and hope. :-) Might work a bit better than with regular shouting.

Right. Thanks, everyone.

I haven't found anything indicating that a telepathic creature can read another's thoughts.

The earlier quote says that you can maintain a 'telepathic conversation.' That would be two-way communication.

Opinions are mixed, see:
