Perfect spell Greater Balck tentacles

Advice

So a while back I made a Leshy warden and made him focused around melee as an Alruane surrounded by summoned Leshy which run in die and heal him but I always like the idea of him summoning massive vines to constrict people and then I found this spell.

The build didn't really need all its feats at the time and suddenly this seems like a good idea going from entangle to thorny entangle to wall of thorns to this , with perfect spell and prayer beads the CL can reach 30 so grapple bonus of 43 which seems decent, but could be higher. What meta magic would you grab to to enhance things, extend spell is already taken because of the druids long term buffs so we're looking for two feats ideally at least one of which would be useful for this spell.

EDIT: engrish

If you want to take prisoners then merciful spell. If you want to make your GM place every combat indoors then take dazing spell. If you want to target ghosts then ectoplasmic spell.

The transmuter of Korada traiit adds one to CL and so to its CMB.

Merciful spell actually sounds like a decent shout, not worried about Dazing spell since I feel like dazing for 6 rounds kinda makes the grapple condition negligible xD
Also this way I don't need to pump wis for DCs quite so much.

Ectoplasmic spell I think would probably depend on the campaign.

Do you think the trait bonus would be 2 with perfect spell?

What do we think of Toppling Spell is there any advantage to adding the prone to the grappled condition?

It doesn't have the force descriptor, toppling won't happen. Spell perfection applies to feats not to traits too, though that trait applies to more druid spells than just this - it's no waste.

The spell has a big area and the enemy may not be able to escape in one round if they can't fly. If they're good enough to escape the grapple sometimes but not automatically then dazing spell could make any failed grapple check their last.

There's not a lot of useful metamagics for this one. It doesn't need spell penetration (no piercing spell necessary), it only attacks buildings and evil creatures which makes selective or fleeting less useful, and the only descriptor it has is 'good'. Maybe reach spell if you need to fight at long range?

Forgot about the force stipulation :/

Yeah there isn't a great deal it needs is there, which is nice in its own way.

Like I said I'm taking extend anyway and the merciful seems fun. I'm hesitant to do Dazing as I've done a dazer before also its kinda borked :P selective might be useful for some other spells he might pick up, like Control winds? hmm not sure.

Tenebrous Spell gives a caster level bonus in dim light or darkness that's doubled by Spell Perfection, could be useful.

I wouldn't normally suggest sickening spell, but since it seems you have an ability from spell perfection going to waste here it might be worth the feat. Or fearsome spell similarly.

Oooo Fearsome spell is pretty nifty, question

Would they have to save everytime they took damage from the tentacle if they stayed grappled for multiple turns, I can't see any reason from this

Quote:
When a creature takes damage from a fearsome spell, if that creature failed its save against the spell, it becomes shaken for a number of rounds equal to the spell’s original level.

why that wouldn't be the case but I'm wondering if there is a precedent set somewhere else.

sickening spell is slightly less attractive to me because fort save, but also because it isn't a fluff friendly in my opinion. Same question as above applied to it too though.

Then again Shaken has the whole mind effecting thing which isn't ideal.

Same wording on both as dazing spell, which it's been established means every time they take damage from the spell. Repeat saves would be required if they don't get out.

Nifty big scary tentacles it is.

Technically they would have to make a save every time they take damage. It's what makes dazing acid arrow so effective. I have been with GMs who have house ruled that the dazing effect does not persist but it's pretty unquestionable that it does.

The people above are right, there are not a ton of great metamagics for either black tentacle spells. I don't think it's the best candidate for spell perfection. There are not many feats or metamagics that are terribly useful with it, save daze and sickening.

I understand that there are more useful spells to use with spell perfection but I really want the image of summoning up massive vines to grab and crush people to be a focus and this seems like the best way to achieve that and Spell perfection is the only obvious way to get the grapple check high enough that its useful at higher levels.

Also the character before had some real place holder feats and a half- hearted melee focus so this seemed like a fun idea.

I don't understand how you intend to increase the CL to increase the CMB. Prayer beads are not a feat. Varisian tattoo plus prayer beads would get you +6 to CL once a day which is pretty good, but really you've used two feats to get +2 to the CMB. What else are you getting from the spell perfection to increase CMB?

Spell Specialization.

And Prayer beads is a +4 for 10 minutes a day. With the trait that brings it to 31 so now we're looking at 44 for CMB.

I'm not sure what the average CMD of CR20s are though so thats not really that useful.

Don't forget the +4 size bonus!

52.5

Oh nifty thats 48.

A 120 ft radius grappling spread with 48 CMB seems pretty good. Succeeding 80% of the time to grapple CR20 sounds pretty good.

This might be a neat use for widen spell. 240 ft radius spread as needed.

Holy s~**
Army killer xD 480 diameter that's nifty

I mean being besieged by an evil army aint that regular but if it came up xD

If 120' radius won't cut it 240' probably won't either, unless you're calculating how many castings it'd take to tear down a city.

Echoing Spell, perhaps. It's not quite as impactful as Widen, but you'll double your spell slots spent on this spell. Why risk running out of spell slots, ever?

If it requires a save, then 2 saves are better than 1. If the target makes 2 hard saves in the same round, you can demand they use a different die.
