Cavalier Constable for Zeitgeist's Gears of Revolutoin

Advice

My group will be starting Gears of Revolution from Zeitgeist.

My understanding is that we will be attached to the local constabulary within the context of the campaign, but I thought it would be cool for my character to actually be a constable and I remembered the cavalier archetype. Right now I've got him set as a lawful good worshiper of Abadar (not actually sure on deities in this setting, haven't read enough of the player guide). I'm leaning towards him being a protector of the people, keeping the peace and so forth.

But I'm not really sure how to build it.

I'm looking at either the Order of the Blue Rose or Scale, but I haven't decided anything. I'm also unsure if I want to capitalize on maneuvers that the constable gets bonuses to, or just kind of ignore that.

Help me decide what to do with the character.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

This is without a doubt the best adventure path ive ever played. The gods aren't really well developed, there's a christian analogue in trigenes (a fisherman who ascended and whose tenets are basically that all people can become gods) and fae titans (about as varied and strange as the eldest)

As you're constables, the ability to take people alive is pretty important If i were to remake my character (currently an investigator and boy howdy if you can convince a group member to be one of those it will be a huge help) i'd be a constable Order of the Penitent for bringin em in alive.

I think someone is my group is going investigator, why do you say they are useful?

Its an investigation heavy campaign.

Diplomacy
Sense Motive
Perception
Knowledge skills
Bluff
Craft Alchemy

All of those were very useful

Look into Dragon Style, if you want to use the Apprehend ability.

Are you planning on being Str-based, or Dex-based?
Remember that you'd also need Improved Grapple to not provoke.

I'm not opposed to Dragon Style and making use of the apprehend ability, though I am considering just taking feather step slippers instead when I can afford them.

Maybe even multiple pair since they're cheap.

Mostly because I don't have the skills to invest in acrobatics to pick up dragon style.

I already had my character taking diplomacy, sense motive, perception, know(local), bluff, and intimidate. I wont ever be the best at these skills since I don't get any sort of class bonuses to them, but I have them and I feel they are important to the theme of my character as a constable.

I am planning to use the Martial Scientist theme from Zeitgeist and will likely take levels in the Polyhistor prestiege class.

Currently I've got my character wielding a scimitar, with power attack, but also improved grapple.

Feather Step slippers only allow freedom of movement in difficult terrain, not Allies. Dragon Style and Combat Sandals allows you to charge through Allies.

for 500gp, pick up a set of Armbands of the Brawler to give you a +1 bonus to CMB when grappling.

I'm building a Constable for PFS play and took a two level dip into the Strangler archetype of the Brawler. I still needed to take Improved Grapple, but the whole +2d6 "sneak attack damage" while grappling and the "doesn't lose dex bonus while grappling" is very handy for Constables planning to use Apprehend often.

Also, Constable gets 4+ int mod to Class Skills. unless you dumped your intelligence, you should be able offer one rank to acrobatics occasionally towards Dragon Style until you are willing to take it.

I still don't have enough skill points to go to acrobatics. I already listed all the skills I'm taking. I have 6, I'd like to advance those 6 every level. 4 + 12 int + human. GM is letting the FCB work on the Constables Badge ability instead of banner ability, so I'm picking that up instead of extra skill point per level.

I don't think charging through allies squares is so important that I neeeedddddd Dragon Style. Feather Step slippers should do just find.

You do you, clax.

Do not forget about the Constable's Tactician ability and consider what teamwork feats would would best within your party.

Yeah, that was one thing I was trying to think on.

Right now I'm tentatively thinking about things like Shake it Off and Escape Route. Things that can be really useful for a completely generic party. I'm also thinking about Intercepting Charge, since I set that up as a plan, have an ally with a higher initiative charge and which gets me a charge, that I can grapple at the end of.

The Order of the Dragon 'Strategy' ability tends to get overlooked, but it can be absurdly tactical - especially as a readied action. You can do things like challenge a dangerous enemy, take a good position, and then ready Strategy for when that enemy makes an attack - you insta-move to the target and trigger Bodyguard with the Dragon Order bonus while granting the ally an AC bonus through Strategy, and granting all other party members a free move if they like (like to 'pounce' something?)... the attacked ally gains a combined bonus of +6AC, and you're positioned to drop a full attack on the attacker next turn. Or, there's moving into a flanking position and readying Strategy so that when a caster casts a spell, you (and anyone else in range) insta-move to get in his face as he tries to cast. Or combinations of such things; 'everyone gets an immediate move action right now if they like' is pretty great stuff.

I've been tempted to create a Dragon Cavalier or Samurai and grab one level of Battle Oracle at 9 to grab the double-roll-your-initiative Revelation, so that battles tend to start with a tactical coup.
