Honestly, this is turning out to be what I had hoped Starjammer would have been like all those years ago. I liked Dragonstar, but 3e wasn't an ideal rule set for it at the time and it had too many things about the setting - like dragons being the rulers of the empire - that niggled me wrong, though I did like it for the most part.

So just got to be like one of the few RPGs is going to fall under science as magic or just Science Fiction with magic?
It's science fantasy. Combining science fiction with fantasy. Generally it's what Odraude said, they want Starfinder to do to Space Opera what Shadowrun did to Cyberpunk.

I'd have to agree here. :)

Spelljammer was closer to steam-punk than science fantasy (although with more magic and less weird technology). The "fantasy physics" of Spelljammer was definitely based on different premises than most science fantasy.
IMO, Spelljammer worked fairly well for a "sword and planet" style of play similar to Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom novels* (but with an added space-travel element, instead of teleportation/astral projection between worlds). Unfortunately, lack of any real guidelines for trading (not even a simple basic commodities list by type, with expected price ranges for each cargo point)** pretty much made a lot of Spelljammer campaigns into "fly around until someone/something attacks us" and/or "just a way to travel between dungeons...in space." Which was a shame, because there was a lot of story potential in the Spelljammer setting.
Hopefully, Starfinder can provide more options to support different styles of play in a science fantasy/space opera setting (like Star Frontiers and Alternity's Star*Drive).
*- The film John Carter is based on the first novel: A Princess of Mars
**- Which was a bit of a heavy-handed "PCs are adventurers, not merchants" fiat that TSR imposed, considering that trade (and pirates) were supposed to be a major part of the setting

The Legendary Planet adventure saga is explicitly a sword-and-planet sci-fi/fantasy hybrid setting and saga, with the base tech level assumptions a little lower than the Starfinder default. We've been creating it for Pathfinder and 5E, but we will also be creating a Starfinder version for those who want a little bit more fantasy in their interplanetary adventure.
