lets get familiar. a question about improved familiar

hares give a +4 to initiative. if i pick up improved familiar and then get a new familiar that is improved do i lose the bonus to initiative?

Yes, you lose the familiar bonus if you replace yours with an improved familiar.

Depends on the improved familiar. I gave up the +4 initiative for a faerie dragon and have not regretted it.

If you are using Improved Familiar to get a Celestial Familiar then yes. If you are using the Aasimar Celestial Servant feat then you are simply adding a template to an ordinary familiar and you wouldn't lose the already existing Familiar Bonus.
