I am looking to make a picaroon SB as my next PFS character. I was wondering if I could take the Dragoon pistol in PFS I have looked through the new updated data for the society and have not found the villain codex on there. Is there a ruling that I will need for my game on sunday.
I know that I need Gunsmithing feat to use it and that I can't purchase a gun until I have it. I will also have to wait till 3rd level probably for fame to purchase an item of that cost also so that my weapon does not explode in my face.
My goal was to get some UMD +10 at first level and Dark archive faction. I got the pin for the 1D4.
thank you for your responses. I know that the character is not optimized but it's what I would like to play.

The Villain Codex should be in the next round of updates to the Additional Resources. As for when that update will happen I am hoping by the end of January but in a post before the christmas holidays John stated that they are backed up, esp due to holidays. So hopefully the staff have had some restful time off and are able to tackle it.

Sarpedon,
If the Villain Codex is not in the Additional Resources document, then nothing in the book is legal for PFS play.
I don't know what you mean by waiting so that your weapon does not blow up in your face. You cannot buy any gun without the required fame. You only get the free gun if you take a level of gunslinger.

Villian codex hasn't been added to additional resources yet.
The paizo people are still hung over from new years on holiday. They'll be back soon. It MIGHT happen before sunday but I doubt it. See the "all i want for christmas is additional resources" thread.
If it's a new character, you are infinitely maleable until you play at second level, so you'd have 3 sessions (3 weeks? 6 weeks) from sunday for the additional resources to come out, that seems like a much safer bet.

yea its a 3 shot pistol with a little bit longer range that can keep me out of range from the 30ft range charge of there is something in front of me I don't have to be so front line but can step in to protect a squishy caster.
What's your take on beneficial bandolier (UE) and reloading it. would it still work or no. since its not those specific types of ammo stated on the description.

Standard per clip of 3 with Rapid Reload.
As an aside, if they ban Dragoon firearms I'll be seriously confused, because it's a downgrade from the standard firearms in all respects but range increment. Even with Rapid Reload you'd have to use the (admittedly historically accurate) "discard empty guns" method to get anything close to the power of a Rapid Reload-ed Alchemical Cartridge in a standard firearm. There are a couple ways to get around it that I can think of off the top of my head (that I won't share because I don't want stuff to get ban-hammered for enabling different weapons to function), but they'd be unavailable without pretty significant investment and downsides.

"crashcanuck wrote:Rapid Reload would make it a Move action to reload all 3 shots thoughWalk me through this, please. I still see a standard per cartridge, with rapid reload.
Rapid Reload states the time to reload a one handed firearm becomes a move action. It doesn't state that the action "speed" improves by one step (full to standard, standard to move, etc) unless there has been an errata or clarification I don't know about

Dragoon Firearms use their own special "clips" that take a Full Round Action to reload. Rapid Reload lowers that to a Standard Action, but they explicitly cannot be lowered any further by abilities, mentioning Musket Master Fast Musket by name as something that flat doesn't work.
Yes but Rapid Reload states "The time required for you to reload your chosen type of weapon is reduced to a free action (for a hand or light crossbow), a move action (for heavy crossbow or one-handed firearm), or a standard action (two-handed firearm). Reloading a crossbow or firearm still provokes attacks of opportunity."
There should be an errata for the Villain Codex stating just how those special cartridges interact with Rapid Reload other than that they just do but as it stands Rapid Reload makes reloading any one handed firearm into a Move Action.

BigNorseWolf wrote:This is not looking good for their inclusionIf they put in a Campaign Clarification regarding those cartridges that their reload speed is improved by Rapid Reload in the same way alchemical cartridges improve reload speed it will fix the issue.
campaign clarifications generally don't futz with the mechanics of something just to tweak it's power when the wording on what it does is pretty clear .
I don't have the villian codex , but from what i can see this lets someone make a full attack with a pistol at a very minimal investment on the part of the character.

FYI - the specific verbiage is:
Once the cartridge is spent, reloading another dragoon cartridge takes a full-round action, no matter the type of dragoon firearm in question. Rapid Reload can reduce the action time required, but abilities like the musket master's fast musket have no effect
So, from what I see here, that is a move action per cartridge, with Rapid Reload.
EDIT: What I missed was that the cartridge had 3 bullets.
So, the problem is, what happens to a clip where you didn't shoot all three bullets?

One of the things to remember when looking at stuff that you want to be included is the lore. Dragoon weapons are mentioned to be only found in use by members of the Cruel Musketeer faction and they are the only people who know how to make them or use the feats in that section.
It is very possible that the rarity mentioned in the lore may prevent their inclusion in the Organized Play. Also I'm not sure what Queen they were meant to serve as their lore seems to not be Golarion specific.
