RotRL Advice: Giant Bane?

Advice

Question for you RotRL vets out there - Typically a bane enchant on your main weapon isn't optimal, but in RotRL would it be worth it to go for a Giant Bane enchantment for my Reach Weapon Fighter? I know there will be some other big bads that have nothing to do with giants, but it seems like I may fight enough of them for it to be worth it.

Sounds like a question for in game knowledge checks. If you are really asking to be given the inside scoop, just admit what you are doing and go read the book.

I'm asking if sinking the gold into the enchant is worth it

The answer depends on how many giants you will fight, a bit of a spoiler isn't it?

Edit: If you think that maybe half of your serious opposition will be effected by it, then bane is probably a good buy.

I already know the campaign is giant-heavy and roughly what's in it. I'm merely asking for opinions.

Spoilers for ROTR:
What part have you made it to? My group is nearing the end of Book 4 (I think) and I think a Giant Bane weapon would have been a great item to have for much of the last couple of books.

If you could get it by early in Book 3 that would be best. Then, even if you don't want it after Book 4 (I have no idea if the abundance of Giants continues) you could always consider selling it for half price. The approximately 4,000gp would likely be considered money well spent by that point.

Level 9. Just about to the end of the Black Arrow Fortress. I've played it to 11 before as my first ever pathfinder experience, but we ran into a TPK and everyone burned out, so we took a break, did some homebrews, and are trying it again stepped back. I know it would be beneficial in the short term, but am worried about long term investment. Weapon is +2 already so bumping to +3 is a 10,000 gold investment vs 8,300ish for an alt weapon with +1 Giant Bane.

Hmmm... tough call in that case. I don't know enough about how useful it will be after Book 4 to say with any certainty. You might consider buying a completely separate giant bane weapon for now and re-selling that if it ends up being less useful later, and keeping your current +2 weapon for other enemies and to keep for the future if/when you sell the giant bane one.

Probably a good idea. I think my group will be more offensively potent this time around.

I wish I could give you a better idea of where I am book-wise, but we have the full campaign hardcover, and I never really asked the GM what chapter/book we were on.

Yes

Sic semper evello mortem gigantes!

Black arrow fortress is halfway or so through book 3. Book one was sandpoint catacombs and goblin cave, book two the haunted house and stuff in magnamar. Might have the divisions a little off, but that's close.

Thanks!

Player's guide has giant slayer trait. From that you can guess campaign has enough giants that giant slayer trait is worth it. From that you can guess giant bane is worth it.

!!!Spoilers!!! concerning giant appearances in RotRL:

Spoiler:
Book 1: None.
Book 2: None
Book 3: A LOT!
Book 4: A LOT!
Book 5: None
Book 6: Quite a few

If you're just past Fort Rannik, it would still be worth it, though ideally, you'd want to have it starting book 3.

I'll just say this: our ranger picked up favored enemy (giants) and didn't regret it as a tech choice.
