Driving me CRAZY! - What combat gear to use?

Advice

Scarab Sages

So I've spent more time in the last few days than I'd like to admit tuning a build for a PFS character. I have everything down for him to play splendidly...except what gear he's going to use (and how that might affect his stats.

So I'm opening it up for you forumites, here are the Rules.

1: Class proficiency - simple/martial weapons and medium armor/shields (no tower). Can have 1 exotic proficiency for free.

2: Must be survivable - it only has a d8 HD. (Higher AC is always better)

3: Can be ranged or melee (reach preferable for melee)

4: Must have 18 INT, all other stats are negotiable.

5: There is a MAXIMUM of 1 feat allowed (IE, finesse or something to make the weapon/armor setup work well)

Show me what you got.

What class is it man?

Scarab Sages

Occultist.

One of the guides suggests the following:

Spoiler:
Mundane Gear:

Breastplate, Full Plate, Mithral Chain Shirt: Archers want to grab the chain shirt to take advantage of their high DEX scores. Everybody else wants the heaviest armor they can reasonably wear.

Composite Longbow: Your best ranged weapon choice.

Greatsword: Hard to beat for a good two-handed weapon. Really, you can mix it up with whatever melee weapon floats your fancy.

Backup weapons: It doesn’t hurt to have weapons of a different damage type than your main weapon, as well as a light weapon for grapples or if you get swallowed whole.

Automatic Writing Planchette (OA): The DCs for the automatic writing occult skill unlock are pretty high; this thing’s an easy +2 for cheap.

Occult Reference Material (OA): If you’ve got the time, this is a modest investment for a nice bonus on topics that might be common in an occult campaign.

Prismatic Crystal (OA): These are nifty little trinkets; you might as well enjoy the benefits of being psychic!

Talking Board (OA): This cheap item gives you all sorts of useful goodies in a spooky occult game, especially if there’s more than one occult character in the party.

Yeah, I've read the guides and while those work, it's a little dull. I was hoping for something a little more exciting than a breastplate and greatsword.

Sovereign Court

How about steel lamellar/mountain pattern and a nodachi?

If you have only one feat available ever then you have chosen to fight with a two-handed melee weapon. An odd one is the flying blade; reach, +2 on AoOs triggered by movement, -2 on ordinary attacks. Your feat is Combat Reflexes. A less odd but effective one would be a dwarven longhammer.

Scarab Sages

Good start, but I've never really liked 2 handed weapons workout reach.

If you want to fight with a 2 handed weapon, reach preferable, and get a free EWP the obvious answer is the Fauchard, isn't it? Only 2H reach weapon with a 18-20 crit range, and trip to boot. I imagine a significant portion of the sales of Classic Monsters Revisited at this point are to PFS players who want to use one.

If you take Transmutation at level 1 (recommended) you don't need strength that high because of your focus powers, something like a 14/12/14/16+2/12/7 would work for an occultist who wants to stand in melee.

Take Combat Reflexes or just Heavy Armor Proficiency.

Scarab Sages

The Fauchard was one of the options I was looking at, it's solid but the low Dex means I pretty much need to pick up Heavy Proficiency. That's not too bad, but I'd need to buy that book.

Get yourself some dead air vials from Blood of the Elements. This stuff will shut down most spellcasters in short order (hard to cast when you can't talk, much less breathe). What makes it even better is that it pretty much doesn't effect psychics, since their spellcasting is considered a mental action.

Depending on your GMs interpretation of the item's rules, it might even kill your enemies in only a few rounds.

Scarab Sages

Those are cool, I might grab a few.

Had an idea hit me earlier today, I could be a support character and use an allying weapon (like Gamin the Mistforged) and a shield. Legacy Weapon should work with that, right?
