I felt like making a Kineticist/Fighter Gestalt, and was wondering: Since Kinetic Blasts are counted as weapons, but don't have a group/family they belong to, are they still eligible to be chosen with Weapon Training?
i would say that they count as their own weapon group(kinetic blasts) however for things like weapon focus and specialisation they would be divided under subcategories based on the type of kinetic blast.
I thought for the blasts, they were all covered under the one focus, specialization, etc. feat
well its a logical compromise as the blasts don't have their own weapon group so if you divided up each blast as a weapon type for the purposes of weapon focus ect. you could then make a weapon group for them
They are not a part of a weapon group for the purpose of the fighter's Weapon Training but ask your GM if it can be included in one or become its own.
Also, its just Weapon Focus(Kinetic Blast) and you don't subdivide it at all. You don't do Weapon Focus(Scorching Ray), just (Ray).
No, they're not. Mostly because Fighter weapon groups haven't changed (much) since the CRB and don't even include rays. So they definitely wouldn't include Kinetic Blast, and I wouldn't think it should. Neither of these abilities are things fighters would normally have access to (except via symbolic item mastery), particularly not a class ability. So I would suspect they won't ever find their way into the Fighter's weapon groups.
There isn't a weapon group for kinetic blasts, but if you were a weapon master, you could select it as your chosen weapon, and get weapon training for it only.
Quote: Certain special abilities (for instance rays, kinetic blasts, and mystic bolts) can specifically be selected with feats like Weapon Focus and Improved Critical. They still aren’t considered a type of weapon for other rules; they are not part of any weapon group and don’t qualify for the effects of fighter weapon training, warpriest sacred weapon, magus arcane pool, paladin divine bond, or any other such ability. from the FAQ
Ah, the FAQ trumps the old interpretation I was using. No weapon training, even for weapon masters.
Thanks Ya'll! That puts that to rest.

Thank you for pointing out that FAQ. I have been looking into this myself.
