I'm curious how different groups run divine spell preparation. Do you track the specific time of day each divine spellcaster prepares their spells, or do you just assume they have their new spells after resting like arcane casters?
What about the recent casting limit?
As with arcane spells, at the time of preparation any spells cast within the previous 8 hours count against the number of spells that can be prepared.
Do you enforce it for divine spellcasters who adventure during the day and prepare spells during the evening?

I ask my players when their character prays for spells each day and that time can't be changed. I don't really enforce the 8-hour recent casting limit. It's not something I enforce for arcane casters either. My rule is that spell prep happens once per day, or in the specific case of arcane prepared casters who leave slots empty it takes a number of minutes equal to 10*spell level to fill empties. Useful for the odd utility spell you'd never otherwise
prepare.

Unless noted otherwise by the player the divines usually prep spells in the morning the same time the wizards are. Though, my Desnan inquisitor specifically prepped his spells at midnight. Fortunately he only needed 2 hours of rest, thanks to his ring of sustenance.
Did that for my priestess of Death as well. Took extra watches or whatnot as well, once my nap and prayers were done.

My cleric player decided she wanted to prepare at night for flavor reasons. I ignore the 8hr rule in general as well. I see no reason to punish a player for choosing an option that seems flavorful for their character, which is what the 8hr rule would do since they primarily adventure during the day.

Yeah, this is pretty much the range of responses I was expecting. My groups only seem to enforce the specific time of day rule when the divine caster's player wants to do so; otherwise, we all get spells back after a night of rest and an hour of preparation. I do find it rewarding in a more fiddly game to specify the hour at which each caster prepares, and to flavor it as a specific activity sacred to the deity (one player flavors his Kord warpriest's prayer as going jogging and doing calisthenics, and I'm going to have a ranger prepare spells by aimlessly exploring the landscape for an hour).
The recent casting limit just seems like a pain in the ass :V
