Eldritch Heritage and Pally

Advice

Grand Lodge

I just stumbled on the Eldritch Heritage feat and I would like another opinion on the sorcerer bloodline powers. I am the party healer but I double as the DPS, mostly using the vital strike tree. I was on the edge with picking up either the Drakonic or the Celestial bloodline, but there are so many cool ideas out there. Could I get some help?

If you're a paladin healer, can you really manage without Selective Channelling and multiple Extra Laying on Hands, plus Power Attack? Those should more than likely cover you for a long time to come. It's probably too late to take Fey Foundling, though, if you don't have it already.

Given that Eldritch Heritage requires Skill Focus, you'll be spending a minimum of 2 feats on what likely will amount to a tertiary function to your role. Not necessarily a disaster, but I would think it would put quite the strain on your role as a healer, for which you are already not a natural choice.

You can heal very easily with one point into Use Magic Device and keeping Cure Light Wounds on your spell list along with a wand of CLW.

The sorcerers bloodline stuff is not that great, it eats up most of your feats and only gives you some mildly useful abilities.

As a paladin your 'healing' role is usually a melee run in while taking AOOs to Lay On Hands someone. You'll never be as good as a cleric but you can still pull off some good support.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

CLW isn't healing - it's just hit point restoring. Healing is a package that includes (Lesser) Restoration, Cure Disease, Remove Curse and several other such spells. The Paladin mercies really help, but to make those do the job you need a boatload of Lay on Hands available per day.

if your looking for a boost on the damage side eldritch heritage orc or abyssal eventually nets you +6 str

Orc is good, like really good.

Skill focus human nets you three free skill focus feats, survival is obvious, diplomacy and intimate work well.

Half-elf gets a free skill-focus. Knowledge Nature gives you the most bloodline options. Stormborn is probably my favorite, though Fey also pretty good if you are going deep into it.

It's called Focused Study, from the ARG. You give up your bonus feat at 1st level and get Skill Focus for it instead, then you get it again at 8th and 16th levels, free both times.
