Gear Advice for 6th level Cleric? (PFS)

The Exchange

Hello all,

I'm going to be running a 6th level Cleric in PFS (saved credit) and I have a lot of gold and not sure what all to buy.

Here's the stats and gear I had planned out for starting.

Stats & Gear:

Separatist Cleric 5 / Exalted 1 of Irori
Race – Human (Mwangi)
Alignment – Lawful Neutral
Deity – Irori

Traits:
• Reckless (combat)
• Seeker (social)
• additional traits: Focused Mind (magic)
• additional traits: Fate’s Favored (faith)

Domains:
• Strength
• Madness

HP: 56
AC: 19

Str: 17 (+2 racial)
Dex: 14
Con: 14
Int: 12
Wis: 14 (+2 wisdom headband)
Cha: 7

Feats: Toughness (lvl 1), Focused Study: Knowledge Religion (human), Additional Traits (lvl 3), Deific Obedience (lvl 5)

Gear I'm thinking of starting with:
+1 adamantine longspear
+1 Mithral Agile Breastplate
Cloak of Resistance +1
lesser Rod of Extend
Eyes of the Eagle
Headband of Inspired Wisdom +2
CLW wand (2 prestige)
3k gold left

----------------------

What gear would you start out with as a Reach Cleric if you had 23k gold? Curious to see what everyone suggests.

Silver Crusade

I'd boost the cloak to +2. My preference would be a Strength belt instead of a Wisdom headband.

I think you should consider Combat Reflexes so you can make Attacks of Opportunity when flat-footed (ie lost initiative).

Scrolls of lesser restoration?

check out PFS Items that can save you and further posts (devalue medlance).

Aegis of Recovery should be an early purchase.

Purchasing a suitable mount, having (Char Lvl/2)+ ranks in Ride and at least 1 rank in Handle Animal will raise your base movement rate and provide a spare combat target/attacker.

Handy Haversack, always useful for some action economy. Otherwise bandolier 0.5gp.

Potions: antiplague, antitoxin, (4) alch fire, (2) cure light wounds, featherstep, air bubble in potion sponge...

Some PA purchases; {Wand of Cure Lgt Wnds}, Wand Obscuring Mist, Wand Protection from Evil, Wand of Tap Inner Beauty, maybe Wand of Magic Stone (w 20 cold iron sling bullets, sling), Scroll Lesser Restoration 2@3 [5], Scroll Align Weapon 2@3 [5], Scroll Weapon of Awe 2@3 [5].

Silver holy symbol with secret compartment, wooden holy symbol(backup), book of prayers (masterwork religious item). (2) holy water {alch fire is usually a more effective weapon but you're a cleric and this is expected}, Portable Alter (see Consecrate spell).

Wooden stakes 0gp, sling 0gp, 20 cold iron sling bullets 4gp, (2) cold iron bear traps 8gp, 7 days rations 3.5gp, 2 water skins and similar useful day to day living items. (2) spring loaded wrist sheaths.

I agree with PCScipio, your focus is on attacking, so a STR belt is better than wis as the first stat item. I'm not sure what the lesser rod of extend is for, which buffs are worth extending?
And that combat reflexes would be a nice feat for you to have.

Ring of protection and amulet of natural armor are what I'd get or be getting quick.

Personally I'd skip out on mithral and adamantine. mithral you're paying 4000gp for 10 movespeed which could be an extra 2 AC. And adamantine is nice for locked doors and hardness, but I'd rather deal with those and have 3000 for upgrading armor. That would put your AC up to 22 while still having the 3k left. Because 19 AC at lv6 isn't all that high.

No need for holy symbols since I have Divine Brand from the Exalted prestige class. Tap Inner Beauty is only available to Shelyn clerics. I couldn't find "book of prayers" though.

I was thinking the headband of wisdom for the extra spells, higher DC saves, wis skill bonuses, and will saves. If I get a +2 version I'll eventually upgrade to a +4 or +6 version later. I can always prep and cast a Bull's Strength that's extended via rod for 12mins duration at 6th level.

Other spells I was thinking that are good for an Extend Metamagic Rod were Greater Magic Weapon, Magic Vestment, and Magic Circle against [Insert Alignment] that I can extend.

I was afraid the 10ft movespeed reduction might cost me from being able to get to someone in time to heal them or prevent me from getting away from enemies. Anything heavier would hinder my Acrobatics score also, which I have a 13 currently and I'll pickup Skill Focus: Acrobatics at 8th level. Unless I'm going overkill on Acrobatics and there's a better Skill Focus I should pickup....

I was debating on Power Attack at 7th or Combat Reflexes, and getting the other at 9th. Toughness and Additional Traits I thought were more important early on.

Also, was thinking that it's best to bite the bullet now and go for the adamantine longspear since it's one of the few DR's that I can't bypass with a spell and could really make me ineffective. I can't add adamantine later on so thinking it may be better now?

Love the suggestions you guys are throwing my way though. Also, should I spend 10pp for the Dayfinder vanity to get 1/day Daylight? Darkness spells seem somewhat common and it'd free up a spell slot constantly.

Feel free to comment on any of this as I'm not entirely sure, just posting the reasons on what I was thinking with my initial selection.

I never bother with acrobatics on non-rogues. I usually take 3 ranks to get better bonuses when fighting defensively.

I would attach the skill focus to another knowledge skill at level 8, since you already get +4 to all knowledge skills.

I would boost up your AC as suggested above.

Portable Alter (AA) 250gp 40lb
Holy Text (UE) 10-100gp 3+lb
Pathfinder Chronicle (ISWG) 50gp +2crcm bonus to knowledge skill. This can be the aforementioned Holy text giving +2 crcm Know(religion).
Holy Text (particular religion) 25gp 2lb.

Any other gear suggestions for 6th level? Also, is there any certain gear that I should save up for later levels?

Anymore suggestions or alternatives? What about Mirror of Guarding Reflections?

I would stick with the Adamantine Spear - it has the most scalability, and as you've noted, you can't add it later.
I would also suggest MWrk Cold Iron and Alchemical Silver weapons. Ideally ones you can sheathe in the Scabbard of Vigor. Aside from the Scabbard you can buy these with Prestige.
I also agree the 10ft movement is worth every penny of Mithral, more from the perspective of melee rather than healing, you can always buy a Rod of Extend to land those heals. The bigger question is whether you go Breastplate or just Chain Shirt. The difference in Mithral cost is 3k, which is enough to bridge the 1AC gap with a Ring of Prot if you are going for Magic Vestment and still leaves you up by 1000 gold.
I also actually agree with your choice of Wis headband over Str belt - an extra level 3 spell per day is better than +1 to hit and damage, if the belt was going to give you an even number str bonus I think it would be a closer call.

Update: I went with the Madness domain and the Knowledge domain.....then after a scenario I realized that they weren't helping me out nearly as much as I thought... So I'm spending 10 prestige and 700gold to change domains to Strength (every domain spell is one I'd be prepping anyways) and Growth (Barkskin and swift action Enlarge Person) domains.

I bought an Adamantine Longspear, MW Cold Iron Cestus, MW Silver Longspear, MW Sling, upgraded my Cloak of Resistance to +2, and spent 10 prestige on a Dayfinder.

So my current gear is:

+1 Mithral Agile Breastplate
+2 Cloak of Resistance
+2 Headband of Inspiring Wisdom
Dayfinder
Adamantine Longspear
MW Cold Iron Cestus
MW Silver Longspear
MW Sling
Lesser Rod of Extend
Eyes of the Eagle
20 Cold Iron Bullets / 10 Bullets

I've got 3.5k gold after finishing a scenario a few days ago. Any gear that I should buy or save up for? Help me spend my money. :D
