Let's talk archetypes

Something I hadn't seen talked yet is archetypes. So to start, I've been thinking of that, one I would like to see is star Knight/space samurai.

I thought that the Solarion was supposed to fill this role? Or Soldier if you are just thinking of space armor and space melee.. We know there is power armor and we know there are energy blades, or at least they have casually mentioned these things in interviews, so that would seem to be the basic requirements of a space knight right there.

To diverge a bit, what if there aren't archetypes as they are in Pathfinder but archetypes being more inherent to the class, like Sorcerer Bloodlines. I think Archetypes were a big hit with Pathfinder and that having them inherent is interesting. I suspect that its not to the extent of d20 Modern though.

I imagine archetypes are going to be how they expand 7 classes to fill all the standard character concepts.

Heck, under Soldier alone, I could see:
Melee specialist
Sniper
Power armor user
Unarmed Brawler/Martial artist
Heavy Weapons user/vehicle gunner
Tactician
Weapon Master

I don't know anything about d20 Modern, do you mean in a similar vein to 5e? That could be cool.

Nope, that is such a last century mentality. Lets come up with about 50 extremely specific archetypes and them group them into 5 categories based on random factors and then build base classes off those five categories. done and done. :P

Sorry to necro, but is there actually any word on whether or not there will be archetypes?

It's something the Paizo dev staff like as a character creation option, so it's hard to believe they wouldn't have archetypes.

I doubt they'll be in the first book though, much like the core rulebook, though they'll probably be built in class options much like the schools or bloodlines.

I hope they don't do inherent archetypes like 5e did. Limits what archetypes can be made to rather annoying extent.

I'm not sure I agree, I think if the CRB was written today archetypes would be part of it.

For some reason i was under the impression that the reason we're getting less classes is also because they come with archetypes

Less classes, with more Archetypes. I like that idea.
