I have a 10th level paladin in PFS who wields a +1 flaming scimitar as his primary weapon and has both +2 full plate mail and a +2 quickdraw shield. I could use some help with my next purchase. I'm considering the following options:
1. A +1 enhancement to the scimitar.
2. A special magic ability for the scimitar (possibly holy, but not decided yet).
3. A +1 enhancement to the plate mail (effective against all enemies).
4. The champion ability for the plate mail (effective against only a smited enemy).
5. The light fortification ability for the plate mail (effective against any enemy who lands a crit on him).
Which of these options would be the best choice? Or, is there another option that i haven't listed here that would be better?
Thanks!
Jason

Adding a ring of protection +1 or an amulet of natural armor +1 is cheaper than boosting your armor enhancement and has about the same effect. Also there's a cloak of resistance to get if you haven't already.
Holy would be nice but it's a +2 equivalent effect - far pricier than the alternatives listed at 24 000 gp.

This - plus the rose ioun stone (+1 AC for 5k) after the amulet & ring.
Also - do you have stat-up items yet? The +2 STR belt is sweet, and as a paladin a +2 CHA headband is nice.
You could get all of the above for 6k less than putting Holy on your scimitar.

Keen is always a good choice for a high threat weapon.
Lots of misc odds and ends in the magic area that is helpful if you want to list what you have, we can then make suggestions.
I'll list all of what he has later tonight after work. He has "the big 6" as far as magic items go.
Thanks!

The belt and ioun stone are items he doesn't have yet, so that will be helpful. Thanks!

Anything granting damage is better than AC in my opinion. So between the original choice I'd go with the weapon, or with the STR belt later mentioned.
I like the keen enchantment on a scimitar if I can choose, and if I wanted AC, maybe pick defendending to switch between damage and AC whenever I like.
On the defensive side, it depends on your group. If you have a solid healer, don't bother with fortification. If you don't, get it by all means!

Defending is almost always a bad choice - and it's a horrendous choice to add to a +1 flaming scimitar.
It means that he'd be paying 10k for the option to give himself +1 AC for an attack penalty (since it's only a +1 weapon with extras), when he could instead spend 10k to get +2 AC all of the time for no penalty by getting the ioun stone & upgrading the armor to +3.

Since this looks like a strength build, might look at a snakeskin tunic as an alternate way to improve Dex thereby increasing Initiative, Reflex saves and most likely AC.
It doesn't use the belt slot.
If you are looking for other possible options, the bracers of the merciful knight improve your lay on hands ability.

If you have armor master's handbook, I think it is a good time to consider retraining. That book has this feat called shield brace, which allows you to use a polearm while using a shield.
You need to get 2 feats - shield focus (prerequisite) and shield brace.
The polearms to consider are nodachi (no reach 1-10, 18-20/x2) or a polearm like a glaive.

If you're not using Shield Brace to use a reach polearm, it's not that good since it only gives you +2 damage. (1-10 vs 1-6 with the scimitar) When wielding it one-handed with Shield Brace you don't get 1.5x STR or 3:1 with PA.
Not terrible - but not really worth the retraining, feats (paladins are rather feat starved), and buying an all new weapon.

I would actually advise against the ring of protection as his smite will almost always over ride it.
Im playing in a game of Mummies mask ( were at the lat book) and we have a paladin of sarenrea who has a flaming holy scimitar and he loves it!
Bracers of the Avenging Knight could be good
I personally love the champion armor enchant for its flavor

What is your divine bond option? if it's weapon, than boost the armor.

Divine bond is with the weapon, which is why I'm not sold on adding the holy ability to the sword, but considered it as an option in case I want to use the bond for a different ability.
