or does your skill points take a hit because of the -2 or -3 to int? fighter gets only 2+int mod. >.>

All characters recieve at least 1 skill point per level upon level up, regardless of other modifiers.

You always get at least 1 skill point. From here:

"You apply your character's Intelligence modifier to:
...

  • The number of skill points gained each level, though your character always gets at least 1 skill point per level."

  • If you get favored class benefit (skill points), can get extra skill point AFTER the 2+Int mod default class part is done.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If you're a human, and you haven't traded away (or are non-human and have otherwise acquired) the racial trait "skilled" then you get 2 skill points per level no matter how low your intelligence is.

If you're playing with background skills, you will also get 2 points for background skills per level for a total of four. I like background skills and prefer to use them so players aren't at a mechanical disadvantage if they want their character to be, say, an accomplished chef or juggler.

So it's possible for a human fighter with 7 intelligence to nonetheless add 5 points per level.
