Tank Witch

Advice

Concept:
Orc scarred witch doctor in full plate that uses hexes and dazzling display to debuff enemies.

Issues:
Finding the most efficient and thematic way to gain heavy armor proficiency.
Getting over the arcane spell failure chance.

My possible solutions:
Warpriest of Nulgreth 1 lvl dip for proficiency, blessings, and weapon focus
Mithral plate and arcane armor feats.

Please let me know if any of you have any additional ideas to stack on to this or better alternatives. Thanks!

I'd look into spellscribe armor and still spell.

A single level of Fighter gives you the armor proficiency, as well as a bonus combat feat which you can spend on Arcane Armor Training.

If you take three levels in Fighter with the Child of Avacna and Whatshisface archetype, you can get Armor Training (which lets you move full speed in the aforementioned mithral armor), as well as a 15% ASF reduction on swift actions (which stacks with the 10% of Arcane Armor Training to get you 25% reduction, which reduces the mithral full plate to 0% ASF).

The problem with the spellscribe armor for me is that it is basically two wasted feats to get one decent feat. I think I will feel a tad feat starved anyways. Still spell could be good though. Thanks for the input, friend! It is much appreciated.

Liberty's Edge

Hexcrafter Magus.

You get all of the hexes and curses you want and can build up to heavy armor naturally in the class.

Fighter is a decent option, but it doesn't give me as much in the way of benefits like warpriest does... although, it is full bab unlike the warpriest. And I most definitely do not want a 3 level dip in anything, due to the drop in hexes. Thanks for the help!

I like the hexcrafter, but I also want the witch doctor benefits because I am super greedy and want to keep upping my ac as I level. Plus witch doctor is super flavorful in my opinion. Thanks for the idea!

go shaman , battle ....
speaker of the past archtype.
armor, heroism, d8 hp, hexes, 9 level spells, blink and more.
can be a great debuffer tank

Grand Lodge

Hexcrafter Magus, Shaman or Spirit Guide Oracle.

The Witch-doctor was Errata'd to run off INT instead of CON now. The other problem you have is casting arcane spells in Armor. The above Classes get around that problem.

It is super flavorful...But not when paired with Heavy armor and weapons for the Frontline. It is flavorful for a INT caster Witch who does not plan to go running to melee and wearing Armor that interferes with casting.

The Shaman is just as thematic to a Half-Orc IMHO. Just missing the Creepy Mask (You can make one) and Burning/Cutting designs into your flesh...Which you can do anyways. You could probably get away with Shaman and describing it similar to the Scarred Witch Doctor and people will probably think your a witch doctor. Don't let a name of a class bind you.

No tank you on the shaman idea. I still want the scarred witch doctor.

You understand a D6 HD and no access to Shield, blur, Displacement and/or Mirror Image is going to Wreck you right? Then having to get heavy armor Proficiency and taking LOTS of feats just to cast in that armor is going to be the most of your feats. Working in Dazzling display and any feats to make your hexes better or to get things like toughness will be EXTREMELY hard on your feat starved class choice?

Most likely you will be dead before level 7.

edit: Also the need to spread your Point buy to be efficient in combat your Hexes will most likely be resisted. Let me go further and saying your Limited to Simple weapons as well with this build. Ontop of it all your at a LOW BaB.

Swap the warpriest dip for a dip in Occultist (Battle Host). INT based caster and free masterwork full plate at level 1

Damn, I guess I didn't realize the errata. I was replying to the other guy. I can get dazzling display with 1 feat if I go warpriest, and that gives me the proficiency. You have an excellent point though. I still like the idea and would like to make it work, but I guess it would be pretty difficult. Thanks for giving it to me raw.

You know what...Your Welcome

Most people on here hate hearing me get give what I consider the raw truth. I really appreciate it when someone steps back rethinks and moves forward more enlightened.

I would very much like you to play a character you enjoy playing with. Nothing more I hate seeing, is another player's build just Flop and the player no longer having fun with a character they are stuck with for an entire campaign. Or them going Leeroy Jenkins to get a new character cause they are just not performing as well as the rest of the group.

I really do appreciate it. I may still check into things to see if I could somehow swing it since I am a bit of a masochist and it gives me something to do, but it will doubtfully see a table.

This may just wait for a game where I can gestalt with something that has a higher hit die and bonus feats i.e. fighter
