So I have seen some old threads that suggest that one can take the Horse Lord feat as a Huntmaster Cavalier. My question is is it legal to do so? Can you actually combine the two? If so I have an idea for a Noble Scion character...
At 4th level, a huntmaster's expert trainer ability applies to birds and dogs rather than mounts.
This ability modifies the expert trainer ability.
Prerequisite: Expert trainer class feature, Ride 6 ranks.
Benefit: Use your character level to determine your effective druid level for determining the powers and abilities of your mount.
Normal: You use your cavalier level to determine your effective druid level for determining the powers and abilities of your mount.

...a huntmaster's expert trainer ability applies to birds and dogs rather than mounts... pretty clearly says you still have the expert trainer ability as a huntmaster. As such, assuming you get the 6 ranks of Ride, you should be set to get Horse master.
Of course, whether you get a benefit from it is a different matter. The benefit applies only to your mount and you don't have one. You have a hunting pack instead. Horse master doesn't mention an animal companion or anything more general.
Thinking about it this is asking for some more multiclassing to another class which does get a mount. Inquisitor with the chivalry inquisition perhaps.

I assumed that I would be able to take the feat, however I was not quite sure if it would interact with my hunting pack (in this case just a hawk). I do have a character that is an Inquisitor of the Chivalry Inquisition, but I gave him the Tactical Leader archetype to make him more like a cavalier to begin with.
