Did Piazo Stop Convention Prize Support?

Silver Crusade 3/5

I heard Paizo has stopped doing player prize support for conventions except for Paizocon and Gencon. Is this true?

Sort of, now they send out gift certificates instead of books and such. I am guessing that shipping was becoming too costly.

Beside that possible explanation, sending gift certificates ensures a player can get product support they actually want instead of duplicates of books they already own.

Exception: If a convention takes place in a retailer space, no gift certificates are sent, just the boon packages.

But, yes, the physical support has been replaced with gift certificates.

So they send a lot of gift certificates players have a chance to roll and win?

Yup pretty much and it's supposed to be fair and ideally transparent, but there are different pretty good ways to distribute them amongst the event attendees.

There are no longer physical products like Rulebooks or Player Companions offered for prizes, but there are still GM boons, player boons, and now Gift Certificates.

Shame. I think it rocks when you can see many books for prizes then just gift certificates. Even the tale book boons aren't that bad but think they aren't sending tale books too.

...not having a lot of luck even getting the boons out to be honest.

Not sure what you mean.

I've gotten boons for every con, even the one we pulled together last minute on less than a months notice. And *very* generous prize support.

I can't say my experience so far has matched yours.

One got boon support, boons arrived (YotSL multi PbP on these boards in June).

Another got boon support, but no boons arrived (YotSL live in July).

I have another event (Weekend long event culminating in Blood under Absalom multi) in 12 days, and no formal reply - so confidence is waning.

Shifty, I've attracted VO and OPC attention to your dilemma. Hopefully someone with 'Boon Power' will be in touch soon to resolve the issue.

Shifty,

All cons whose organizers submit con support requests at least a month out get con support. Those that are submitted with less than 30 days get support on a as time allows basis. If you don't have a local coordinator to work with, you may email me direct for the forms and directions.

YotSL in July was initially submitted as a 3-5 table event, then a Regional Support Package qualifier with 10 tables. To finish out the RSP process, I needed goals and information on a follow on event. This information wasn't submitted, so I didn't go forward processing the support. As posted in a recent blog, we took the Regional Support Package back to the drawing board as it wasn't functioning as desired and people weren't getting the support they needed.

I have no information on the upcoming event. If you would like to contact me via email, we can open a discussion about support.

PFS growth meant we could support less cons with physical support or more cons with gift certificates. We opted to spread con support to as many conventions as possible. While I understand the visual appeal of books, I would rather have the support getting into peoples hands instead of being given to USPS in the form of shipping fees.

Ahhh ok, thanks for the explainer.

Originally we were looking at a 3-5 table event, however it was subsequently expanded out to 10 scheduled tables as a couple of other semi-local lodges wanted to get on board as well so it grew. As we grew rather rapidly closer to the event I am aware the request was submitted late, and I completed the required form and returned it (I think it was only a few weeks out) - I didn't get a reply back that more info was needed at the time or I'd have happily supplied it.

I'll flick through an email re the upcoming one.

I've expanded this one out to 15 tables planned, but it looks like we will merrily pass that.

I need to find a bigger venue.

Appreciate the contact :)

Because I like to give credit where credit is due, and because it is the proper thing to do, I would like to express my thanks to Tonya and the team for getting this matter sorted out.

In the end, all admin was able to be resolved and my happy team of good looking and highly popular cool kid GMs appreciated their boons, and all of my exceptionally talented and discerning players got a crack at going in for boons and prizes.

It was also rather pleasing to pass on boons for July as well, which by this point was unexpected.

So my many thanks to Tonya for just sorting all that, and a big thanks from the people I had the privelidge of organising to attend our event.
