What counts as damage for metamagic feats like dazing?

Rules Questions

Many metamagic feat require the original spell do "damage". Does this only mean hitpoint damage or would any negative effect count, like causing shaken or doing ability damage?

Wrong forum. Needs to be in the RPG forum, not the card game one.
Flagged.

This said, answer is "damage" means "damage" (i. e. hit points damage). it does not apply to ability damage, conditions...

Damage is hit point damage.

Even ability damage wouldn't count because while it is damage, it isn't "damage" it is "ability damage".

I think it also has to be the spell's energy itself that causes it. Dazing Fireball is of course the go-to for that feat, but a Dazing Create Pit isn't quite as good, as the pit itself doesn't really 'damage'.

Whether this would apply to a Dazing Acid Pit is best left for those who think 2d6 acid damage plus possible dazing to leave you in there is a good use for a 7th level spell (I think ... maybe? The acid is part of the spell, like an Acid Arrow or Acid Splash ... )

dazing stone call with a heighten if 2 rounds is not enough.
