Arcane Bond Firearms

In pfs play, if a wizard takes the gunsmithing feat and purchase a master work firearm around say 3rd lvl, can they form an arcane bond with the weapon?

The Exchange

scroll down to the feat you want to use. it will tell you that you cant. firearms are only for gunslingers.

You can, via that same link...

Quote:
Equipment: No Large or larger firearm is available for purchase. The double hackbut, culverin and any advanced firearms on Table 3-4 and advanced firearms on Table 3-5 and are not permitted in Pathfinder Society Organized Play. No character may purchase a firearm unless she possesses the Gunsmithing feat and firearms are never considered Always Available; a character must possess enough Fame to purchase any firearm not found on a Chronicle sheet or granted by a class feature; All ammunition except metal cartridges may be purchased.

The Free bonded object must be always availible, so you can't start with one in PFS.

It is notable that:

Quote:
Gunsmithing does not grant the ability to craft firearms, ammunition, or black powder. Rather, it allows the purchase of bullets, pellets, black powder, and alchemical cartridges (with 1 rank in Craft [alchemy]) at the listed price, but does not grant a discount on the purchase of any firearm. Resold items gained through this feat are worth half the actual cost paid, not half the regular market value for the item. No PC can purchase a gun without this feat, even if they possess the Amateur Gunslinger or Exotic Weapon Proficiency (firearm) feats.

Thanks for the info, but a very experience pfs GM told me that a wizard cannot have a firearm as a bonded weapon, he hasn't see anything in the rules that says they can. Personally, I think a wizard can since it is a weapon and there isn't anything that says a wizard can't have a firearm as an arcane bond. But, I'm not the GM, so what he says goes.

You can have a firearm, but you need the mentioned Gunsmithing feat, You also can't get one as a free bond, so you must purchase it normally (fame), and you must pay for the ritual bonding. And you still need proficiency to use it, plus Craft Gunsmithing to purchase bullets and Craft Alchemy for alchemic cardidges.

Huge Waste for a wizard.

Is the Spellslinger archetype legal in PFS play? If so, that may be the way to go for the OP.

Silver Crusade

I looked up on the additional resources page and the spell slinger is not legal for PFS play.

Sczarni

Firearms cannot be selected as an arcane bond.

I recently told a player this, so perhaps the OP is that person.

In PFS, Arcane Bonds MUST be "Always Available". According to the Additional Resources document, firearms are NEVER considered "Always Available".

EDIT: sorry, did some digging. The "free" bonded item granted by the Wizard class feature cannot be a firearm, but you may pay the requisite gold to transition your arcane bond TO an already existing firearm.

Though I believe the discussion I recently had involved getting a "free" firearm.
