amulet of mighty fists pricing question

Rules Questions

okay so im playing a natural weapons fighter sorc dragon disciple and im intending on getting an amulet of mighty fists so that my damage output is higher. im currently going to be purchasing a +1 amulet for 4k which is the price. now the question comes in after this. im wanting to add shocking damage and eventually fire and ice so that each of my attacks does fire shock acid and ice damage when the character is fully built. now when adding shock damage would i need to pay 12k for it? or would i need to pay for the enchantment? since im just enhancing the item i already own i contend that i would only pay for the enchantment. others have told me it is this way for the amulet as well but we are kinda in a stalemate here and i would like a tie breaker. ill go by whatever is decided here.

Silver Crusade

You pay for the difference in cost, a +1 shocking Amulet of Mighty Fists and a +2 Amulet cost the same, it would be an upgrade, so you only have to pay the difference in costs between a +1 and +2

Like armor and weapons, you only need to pay the difference between the two costs when upgrading. Going from a +1 AOMF to a +1 shock AOMF is the same as upgrading to a +2 amulet so you pay 16k - 4k = 12k. You will have spent a total of 16k on the item, but split into multiple payments.

Further upgrades work the same way.

Val'bryn2 and Del_Taco_Eater are correct that you only pay the difference. For a more official source:

Upgrading Items

Adding more magic to an existing item can be quite simple or very math-intensive. If the item's current and proposed abilities follow the normal pricing rules (particularly with weapons, armor, and shields), adding the new abilities is a matter of subtracting the old price from the new price and determining how many days of crafting it takes to make up the difference.

Example: Patrick's wizard decides to use his downtime to increase the armor bonus on his bracers of armor +1 to +3. The price difference between the two types of bracers is 8,000 gp, so Patrick's wizard must spend 8 days and 4,000 gp (half the 8,000 gp price difference) upgrading his bracers' magic. If he has fewer than 8 days before the next adventure, he'll need to finish his crafting while traveling or use accelerated crafting in town to speed up the process.

wow so im essentially paying 12k for a call lightning or lightning bolt spell? god damn. thats crazy. but thank you all very much for the quick responses.

edit 1: so i have a follow up question. what is the best way to make a quick 200-300k in the rise of the runelords ap? lol. ((i want a wyvern cloak too))
