What do gods do? Or "Whats my day like?"

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I've sort of wondered what people think the Pathfinder gods do in their godly routine.

Supernatural (TV) had the big G decide to hang around earth pretending to be one of his own prophets while indulging in human experience.

Marvel Movie Setting has the Gods of Asgard basically acting like higher level adventurers, but they generally weren't seen as 'worshipped'. More like mythic level chars doing mundane to heroic things.

So for our Pathfinder setting, what do people think someone like Sarenrae does when she 'wakes up for the morning?' I imagine Caiden is something like Volstagg, chasing skirts, drinking, fighting, drinking, getting into trouble from the skirts he chases, etc.

A god of smiths is probably doing a Tony Stark thing. But for others, is someone like Iomedae fighting demons and devils and stuff all the time?

When their faithful pray to them for spells and stuff, do they just have that on 'autoresponse' and only really get involved when someone uses divine messaging service via higher level spell to directly speak with them?

I imagine what it'd be like if the Gods of a particular plane have to 'go to work in the office' every day....

Watch over their followers and their domains.
Make sure no on is encroaching on their turf.
Watch over their rivals.

Provide inspirations to advance their followers, and their own causes.

Study their own domains and those related to improve themselves

A God that fails to do this fades into obscurity, or worse.

Groetus waits.

Yes, and the meek shall inherit the earth.

6 feet at a time.

Groetus waits.

Does he make sure he is prepared for what he is waiting for?
That his followers are?
That he has allies for when the boom-splat lands?

Clever counter-example though, on the surface.

No. He just waits.

Without caring. Without noticing. He just waits.

This message paid for by Citizens for Groetus. He didn't approve it. But then, he didn't not approve it either.

Occasionally, Groetus starts falling, and must be appeased with food.

While it probably varies a bit from diety to diety, most, particularly the lawful ones, probably act like most CEO's do.

Discuss with minions the status of various projects/objectives, modify/cancel/start as needed. Worship on planet Zorg is increasing. Sending a legion to help close the dimensional breach has significantly improved our image there. Excellent, check the legion for ascension candidates and shift our PR resources there immediately.

Do meetings that can't be pawned off on a minion. I know the Mountains of Quivering Delight have been part of your domain since the fourth conjunction, but ceding the Pass of Desires would significantly reduce transit times and prevent... altercations. *heavy breathing intensifies* So, you're open to the idea?

In addition there are some things unique to being a object of worship, namely making sure the people drawing power from you are generally keeping aligned with your divine will and ensuring that your domain in the planes of existence remains stable.

So meetings, meetings, and more meetings broken up by serious introspection and meditation. Occasionally you might get to do something fun like smite some heathens or work on a crafting project.

If you're a chaotic and minor diety like Cayden Cailean, drink with your minions, spend time making sure your house/domain doesn't fall apart, drink some more, visit Golarion for a laugh, maybe sire a nephilim. Basically work to ensure you never end up like the diety described above.

OK, Groetus is an irrelevancy to this discussion.
It appears to be more of an effect than a god.

Mr. Jackson has Interesting ideas, perhaps useful to the OP?

Agreed. I'd put Rovagug and the Outer Gods, possibly some others in the same category. They are deities by effect rather than choice/action.

Dear Diary,

Today I woke up and started the day like normal. I did some of that new Yoga stuff they invented in the Jade Kingdom. That just goes to show not everything that comes out of that part of the world is like that stuck up Iori.

After that it was a hot shower then it was on to combat drills with the Angels. Those guys really need to practice a bit. I dazzled them with my amazing sword play then assigned them an extra few rounds of demon slaying to keep their skills sharp.

Once that was done it was off to lunch with my girlfriends Shelyn and Sarenrae. We had some Clerics give us pedicures while we ate some absolutely wonderful chicken fajitas. People think when you're a war goddess that you don't do pedicures, people forget that I was a girl long before I was a Paladin and there's no reason to not look fabulous when you protect the world from the monsters of the World Wound.

After lunch it was back to work. You wouldn't imagine how much fun that wasn't. These a-hole adventurers that I invited couldn't even answer a few simple questions. Then they whined about the heralds' trumpet playing. Can you believe it? Those trumpeters are the best in the nine planes, their horns can totally kill a crowd!

When work was over Arshae and I hit up that new tavern in Magnimar. The place was amazing, too bad that witch with a capital B, Calistria, showed up.

Arshae and I bailed but ran into Cayden. He can be a creep but he had some AMAZING ale. Arshae drank a little too much and got a bit clingy. I decided it was a good idea to get us out of there and head back home before things went too far.

I dropped her off at her plane to sleep it off then headed home. Once I got here I decided to take a long hot bath then add this entry. Tomorrow is another day after all!

Yours always,
XOXO
Iomedae

Soooo internet gaming? :) Spends his days purposefully getting called names by 12 year olds and basking in the suffering?

Are you implying that she's a huge hypocrite, or do you actually not think Iomedae is stuck up?

All Gods are a little stuck up. Iori tends to take it to a whole new level in the Lore.

Iori is the only God who is like, "Pfft, you three (Iomedae, Cayden, Norberger) aren't real Gods. You are only "Gods" because of some silly space rock. You weren't born Gods and you certainly didn't do it like I did, through my self perfection."

It's stated that there is a lot of friction between Iori (Mr. Perfect) and the Ascended Pantheon because of Iori's attitude.

In fairness to Irori (never thought I'd say that), he disapproves of Iomedae, Cayden, and Norgorber, not because of the rock, but because they copied Aroden. He was cool with Aroden and he's still cool with Nethys, Sarenrae, Shelyn and the other gods who technically ascended. He just prefers that everyone should find their own path to perfection. He probably wouldn't care for someone who took his exact route to godhood either.

That still makes him stuck up.

Great. He's a stuck up hipster. The worst kind of God.
