Do You Like Stamina (Unchained)?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I've seen stamina hailed as the savior of the fighter, but I also know people who hate the very idea of encounter-based powers.

What are you arguments in relation to the system, for or against?

I personally love it. I often Houserule it as a default feature for fighters in games i DM (but my players don't read the houserules i hand out... so when all the NPCs have options they don't and they are confused I facepalm).
I wish that Paizo would show more support for the system, and definitely would like to see some 3PP support for it.

It's one of the most well supported subsystems, a lot of new combat feats have stamina options...

I love the system and fighters have it by default in my games.

It should've been core. That explains my stance with it.

Not only that... they've been going back and developing stamina options for feats released in previous books. To my knowledge, they haven't done that with ANY other optional sub-system.

Verdant Wheel

I like it and I dislike it.

Like:
It gives Fighters an extra (fun) resource to manage in a fight. Plus, as they get the most feats, even as it is available generally, they get the most benefit from having it.

Dislike:
It goes against what I find to be a main draw of the Fighter class: simple. Bear with me here! In my experience, a lot of players are drawn to the fighter precisely because he has few frills and is relatively easy to build and play. I realize a lot of folks on these boards are just the opposite - that's great - but there are those players out there who actually want simplicity. I have one in my game who plays a Fighter.

So, in summary, I don't hail Stamina as the savior of the Fighter. My own Fighter patch does not give out free Stamina because I wanted to leave that as an option for the ambitious (take the Combat Stamina feat) while improving the Fighter in ways that are simple. My fix is to skill points, class skills, good Will save, free Combat Expertise, earlier access to Weapon Training, Armor Training grants DR, and Bonus Feats may be retrained daily. This is basically a list of +1s and +2s, which tend to make sense to the simple player, with the only added wrinkle being retraining bonus feats, which, can also simply be set and not retrained.

I guess I haven't been looking closely enough; a bunch of my groups have been trying out 5e so I have been having pathfinder withdrawal lately. But that is a rant for another thread.

There is a bit less then 2 pages of Stamina support in both Weapon Master's Handbook and Armor Master's Handbook (for a total of 4ish). Which feels like a pretty good amount of support. I THINK there might be some more Stamina support in some other books but I can't think of which right now.

We enjoy stamina in our group so much that we give out Combat Stamina to all Full BAB classed for free, but only at level 1 (to prevent dips just for free Stamina). Other classes still have access to it, but must select the feat naturally. It's played out very well.
