I'm trying to figure out how to set up a communication method by using Mirror Sight (actually a magical mirror that can cast it on command).
The spell is basically scrying that works on the same plane through manufactured mirrors only, and (visual only) information can go both ways. Like a Skype video call without sound.
Is there a spell that could be used to cause fancy magical writing to appear mid-air? Would prestidigitation do the trick? Maybe research a new (low level) spell?
This might seem overly complicated, but there's no access to Sending yet, nor do I think anyone in the party will get the spell, so this method must do for the time being.
It also has a fun element of "mirror mirror on the wall".

Just bring some paper and charcoal or Ink and a quill and write messages backwards.
I would let prestidigitation make small notes. If your GM is iffy on that I would make a Silent Image of a piece of paper with the appropriate message on it.
Other than that I don't know any spells that just write stuff for you off the top of my head though. :(

It being Halloween-time, thread necromancy!!
Since I'm looking into creating just this sort of thing ... I would allow prestidigitation to be used to quickly write upon a chalkboard, wall, or parchment/paper. My personal preference, I think, would be sign language.
The trick here really is finding the cost of the item. Ring gates cost 40k, but have multiple added benefits, many of which can be hugely influential. 5k, maybe?

It's like a crystal ball but based off Mirror Sight rather than Scrying. 42 000 gp * (3*5)/(4*7) = 22 500 gp. Make it a 1/day command word item instead and it's 3*5*.2*1800 gp = 5400 gp. Or double that if the slotless item modifier is applied, but since it doesn't seem to have been for the crystal ball - tho' something reduced the price, probably the reduced DC for multiple attempts on the same day - you might reasonably ignore it for the latter variant too.

A crystal ball can look anywhere; we (or at least I) simply want two-way communication. Here's what I came up with - added mithral to the construction kicked the price up a bit, but I figure that since all that's being done is transmitting visual information (technically constantly), it's workable.
Twinned mirrors
Aura: Faint Divination
CL: 5
Cost: 6,000 gp
Weight: 1 lb. each.Twinned mirrors always come in pairs — two thin highly-polished mithral mirrors of exceptional quality, each one eighteen inches wide by twenty-four inches tall. The mirrors must be on the same plane of existence to function. Anything viewable by one mirror is seen in the other, and vice-versa, as per the spell Irriseni mirror sight. The mirrors are thus useful as observation devices, and non-verbal communications over very long distances can be set up. Some creators give the mirrors the ability to flare brightly to indicate a desire/need to communicate (adds faint evocation aura, 500 gp to price).
Locked into showing only each other, the destruction of one mirror (which is made more difficult with their mithral construction) destroys the set.
Construction
Requirements: Craft Wondrous Item, Irriseni mirror sight; Cost 3,000 gpFlare version
Requirements: Craft Wondrous Item, flare, Irriseni mirror sight; Cost 3,250 gp

i wanted to have a journey book from "wizard's first rule". which is two books linked together what's written in one appears in the other no matter where the pairs are in the world. i wanted one so my pc could get commands from his liege. that also functioned as a sorta locator thing so the liege knew where my pc was and could make weird requests "ahh i see your heading into the "Caverns of Woe" i would like a sample of the glowing fungus that's rumored to grow there" sorta thing.
