use of a magic is what kind of action?

Rules Questions

and how many magic items can you activate in a round?

It depends on the item and especially on the description.
Wands, potions, scrolls and staffs are always a Standard Action and provoke an Attack of Oppurtunity.

Worn items which use up a Slot can have varying activation Actions, from a command word (Standard Action which provokes no AoO)

And then there is the use activated item, that is always active or Triggers on ist own, when certain conditions are met (like the feather fall ring)

And then there are a couple of items that have move, Swift, free or immediate Actions activating them, but they're always in the description. When there is no mentioning of what Action it is to activate the item it's save to assume it's a Standard action

For using spells, it's the spell's casting time.

The PRD is an invaluable source of basic Pathfinder information. A link is near the top of the Pathfinder column on the left, under "Rules Archive (PRD)".

It would be easier if you tell us what you're trying to do, but because you only have 1 standard action a round mostly likely you're only going to be able to activate 1 item a round. That's not guaranteed, but most offensive type magic items are standard action. Heck even a lot of defensive items are a standard action.

i just wanted to know the information is all. thanks for the info.

magic items in my current group is very rare so i have not come across a bunch of magical item to look at and compare.

Using a wand or staff don't provoke an AoO.
