Does Mistmail lose its AC bonus?

Rules Questions

A PC in my campaign has fashioned some mistmail and I'm wondering if mistmail loses its AC bonus when it becomes mist? I have two thoughts on this.

1st) It doesn't say anywhere that it loses its AC bonus which implies it keeps its AC bonus.

2nd) It does say it transforms into fog which implies it's no longer armor and would lose its AC bonus while in mist form.

I think you do lose the AC bonus. While it doesn't come out and say it outright, the example of what happens when you try to put on new armor while it is mist makes you think "why would someone try to put on new armor if it is still providing the character an armor bonus"

I think the benefit is for when you come up against a really strong opponent - one that will still beat your AC with a roll of a 4 or lower. Using the mist mail will give you a lower chance of being hit - even without any armor bonus, than were you to keep your armor in armor form.

You lose the AC bonus. The armor changes to mist on command, nowhere does it say it still provides AC while in mist form. As such it functions just like it says it does. If the armor made mist that would be one thing but because the armor physically turns to mist it means you are no longer wearing armor.

On the plus side this also means your Dex is no longer restricted either.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm about to award this suit to my PCs as Adventure Path treasure and have some general questions:

1. Are named weapons and armor upgradable? I ask, because if they can't be upgraded they just live with my PCs for special moments in time and I'm less worried about precise balance, and if they can be upgraded they must be well balanced. If they can be upgraded how much would it cost to make the armor +2? An incremental 3k like every other armor going from +1 to +2 or something more?

2. Is 20% concealment sufficient for a rogue wearing this armor initiate a sneak attack? I'm thinking no.

3. Is 20% concealment enough for a rogue to initiate a hide check without other forms of cover? I'm really not sure.

4. Does the individual wearing the armor also suffer 20% miss chance when he attacks other enemies? I'm thinking no.

Thanks.

Since it's not on you when you command it to mist form, you're not getting any AC or other benefits that you would have from wearing it.

Plus it only stays in mist form for 3 minutes.
