Ironic God?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Someone please correct me and inform me that I am mistaken, but I could have sworn that out of all the Golarion deities, I'd read about one whom disliked being a god, and whom encouraged his/her followers to blapheme, or distrust the validity of the gods, when he is a god himself? Am I mistaken?

Currently I'm building a PC investigator, who through the use of what I call "backdoor feats" is dabbling in trademark features of other classes without ever putting class levels into other classes. For example, he uses sheer intellect and resourcefulness to research his geneaology to determine what, if any, his sorcerer bloodline may be, then essentially goes through conditioning training to awaken the diluted magical blood in him, researches what ki is and attempts to practice to tap into it, and most relevantly, is generally an agnostic at best or atheist at worst, but I'll give him "Believer's Boon" feat to represent him dabbling in what it's like to be a cleric ironically. "If there are truly gods out there, and you can gain divine boons from them, then I shall do the same, to prove it's all a farce" only to be surprised when the above-mentioned god bursts his bubble.

I guess some people just need to believe that there's someone out there who doesn't care about them.

In answer to your question, I don't think such a god actually exists. The closest would be Groetus, but he doesn't resent being a god.

Closest I think there is is Sifkesh..

If the deity you seek however does exist, I want to be introduced, I want to make a paladin that worships him/her (outside of PFS).

If I recall correctly, he/she ascended to godhood against his will, or accidentally.... does that ring any bells?

Maybe you're thinking of Zyphus, god of accidental deaths?

Alanis Morissette?

That's situational humor, not irony xD

That's not what the song says, it's highly doubtful a musician would screw something like that up.

Besides, she was god in that Kevin Smith movie. :-)

Isn't it ironic, don't ya think?

A little too ironic, one could say.

And no, not Zyphus. He, I believe, was an ascended deity (not necessarily Starstone style) and his attitude towards divinity was unfavorable. Hm.... I'm drawing a blank.

Naderi maybe? Kurgess?

None that I've seen in the Inner Sea Gods book, not even in the B listings. It seems very clear that everyone who's ascended, has done so by a force of will.

That's right b+$@!es! I just wanted it more!

plays electric guitar with her tongue.

Also, I didn't want to go out like Arazni

Had a druid that happened to once in a home campaign. He was hooked into some kind of artifact machine by a techno cult who believed that they could exploit his connection to the land by supercharging it.

Things... did not go quite as planned.

Well, Cayden Cailean took his test while blackout drunk.

Mind you, I have almost zero use for him in any form, but he's the closest I can recall to an "accidental" deity in Pathfinder.

Considering he is literally called "The Accidental God" I'm not sure why the scare quotes are there.

Because I'm referring to the OP's second post in the thread, rather than my least-favorite good-aligned deity's formal writeup, which I don't read often enough to remember his epithets?

Would you have preferred a more direct translation of Dionysis?

Hmm... I've looked all over and I can't find said deity. I do not know WHERE I saw it, and what it was.

Geryon seems like he fits this after his write up in the latest Hell's Vengeance AP. A demigod who is a former Asura (born from divine mistakes), whose portfolio includes heresy, and whose obedience boons include powers to strip divine abilities away from other believers.

I also think Sifkesh fits the bill, but you probably are remembering Zyphus, who became a god by cursing Pharasma's judgment and rejecting the role fate held for him.
