Is this a good campaign setting

Advice

I was looking for Pathfinders official campaign setting. When a friend gave me Pathfinder Chrinicles Campaign setting. Is this the official one or at least a good one. It was bought in 2009/2010 if i use it is there a way to get an update or are there any Erratas out there for it. Thanks for the help?

The Pathfinder Chronicles: Campaign Setting book has basically been replaced with the Inner Sea World Guide. As far as I know, the information is mostly the same, though written for 3.5 instead of the Pathfinder rules. So the setting should be similar, though I might not use the player options.

That was the setting for the old 3.5 modules.

It's pretty much obsolete but still usable for a home campaign.

The new setting has a lot of books on it, but the Inner Sea World Guide should be a good start.

Thanks for letting me know. I do have a copy of the Inner Sea World Guide. So any pathfinder book that says campaign setting on it will work with the inner city world guide?

Lantern Lodge

Kinda. Ultimately you need to know what you are getting the campaign setting for.

If you are GMing, then you can use the campaign setting books to help flesh out your version of Golarion.

If your playing and want to know more, than the campaign setting books are a good read. However, your GM is the final arbiter on what is "canon" in the campaign.

The Golarion setting is really quite interesting. It is a little more human-centric then some other campaign settings, but given the size of the world there is a location for any sort of adventure.

It should, yeah. Though some of the older ones may contain a few things that are outdated. Basically, if something in an older book contradicts a newer one, the newer one is assumed to be correct, as far as I know.

The smaller softcover campaign setting books go more in depth on a particular country/city/etc. The Inner Sea World Guide is a good one to start with because it gives you a basic overview of the world, focusing mainly on the Inner Sea region where most of the APs and modules (so far) are set.

If you go to this page you will see all of them in chronological order of release. The ones which were published after the Inner Sea World Guide should be completely compatible with it. The ones published prior to that will be nearly completely compatible with it.

My impression is that the most common changes are things written into the earlier books which were then removed later. This is more likely to occur with those books titled "Pathfinder Chronicles", especially if they're from the period before Pathfinder RPG's release (you can find a list of the chronicles written for 3.5 here).

Having said all of that, I use some of the earlier books with minimal fuss. There are very, very few things changed from the earlier books and some of those early Chronicles are exceptional. (The Guide to Korvosa remains my favorite City sourcebook Paizo have ever produced even though it was their first).

I have to say that the official Pathfinder setting is really good. It's wide enough to offer the proper tone and mood to about any game. Even just the Inner Sea is big enough for most adventures. Great diversity in areas, lore and countries. From that perspective, it's actually better than Tolkien's Middle Earth. There's like 5 Mordors and Gondors to choose from, all with different themes.
The only thing I'm missing from it is full details on resource-locations (mines and other industries, for example).
