How would you go about casting a spell in secret?

Normally casting a spell is a big and flashy affair. I know there are some class features that do allow you to conceal spell casting but how would you go about casting a spell secretly if you don't have those features?

Biggest example is Charm Person in a crowded room.

Ultimate Intrigue added a some feats to allow you to do it.

Can't remember there names off hand.

I do remember it ends up being an opposed check with penalties for material, verbal, somatic components that the spell has.

Cunning Caster feat is from Dirty Tricks Handbook, you can google it. I also can't remember the UI one, but Concealed Spell might be it. Each is mechanically different.

Cast a programmed image ahead of time (of you doing something innocuous), then trigger it when you want to cast a spell.

If you had a magic item to do the same job, that seems to be vastly more subtle. It's possible that a spell-storing item casting a spell that has no obvious effect (like a self-buff or something) could be subtle too? I'm not sure about that one, searching has got me nothing.

Correction, Cunning Caster and Subtle Devices were from Heroes of the Streets.

Conceal Spell is the feat from Ultimate Intrigue.

Do it from total concealment.

For example, hidden in a closed rain barrel with a little knot hole to peer out of, or from across the street, hiding behind the drapes of an upstairs window.

Still Spell and Silent Spell should help a lot. (I know RAW you can still detect the spellcasting, but the absence of notable gestures and loud chanting should help a lot.) Doing it from invisibility might also help, but then it's hard to be invisible in a crowded room.
