feat prereqs

Rules Questions

Am I correct in remembering that feat prereqs are met by conditions you can regularly meet, and they function so long as you currently meet them? For example, can my kitsune with Fox Shape take the Taunt feat (prereq of small or smaller) so long as its only used while in fox shape?

I don't see why not. You have reliable means of meeting the prereq of the feat.

If it works fly, should work for that. You cannot put ranks in fly unless you have a reliable mean to fly every day, and Wizard have Fly spell at level 5, and even if it last 5 min, you can still put ranks into it.

This is hotly debated. Expect table variation.

IMO, it ought to work that way but, by RAW, doesn't.

Why is it?

Special Requirement

You cannot take this skill without a natural means of flight or gliding. Creatures can also take ranks in Fly if they possess a reliable means of flying every day (either through a spell or other magical manner, such as a druid’s wild shape ability).

If it works for a skill, why wouldn't it work for a feat?

It would seem that based off of SKR's brawler-thread comments, as well as Jason and SKR's Flyby Attack comments (both quoted in the thread you linked to, Fuzzy), that Fox Shape should qualify me for Taunt as an ability that can be always on with indefinite duration... doesn't it?

It is a special requirement for the Fly skill that holds because there is specific text to that effect. There is no such text for any feat.

For more, please read the above-linked thread, I don't want to try to summarize everyone's arguments myself.

You are clearly in a better position than most, yes. I would go so far as to say that if any such feature qualifies one for a feat, yours does. (And, again, personally I think it should, which is one reason I don't like arguing the RAW position.)

You should be in the clear with this one. It would take a very unreasonable view to say it doesn't work.

full disclosure though, I'm of the opinion that even if you only qualify briefly, then you still qualify so I am biased. I see no distinction between temp and perm bonuses.

If you stay in fox form for 24 hrs, then you meet the threshold of a temporary / permanent boundary.

I have never seen that as a general rule. Do you have a quote?

It's the rule for ability enhancements.
It's also the requirement that SKR used for the devs requirement for feat prereqs.

But this issue isn't directly settled.
