Gnome mesmerist build advice

Advice

Hello all. I am making a new character and would like to build a mesmerist. I have read the guide that is online and found it somewhat helpful. I need advice on making the mesmerist more of a spell caster and battlefield controller. The guide doesn't really get into those areas. I don't want to be in combat but I would like others to do my bidding. Really like the -2 to will with the stare. Thinking of cult master archtype to help my allies. My biggest concern is the amount of spells the mesmerist gets. Only 1 spell at 1st level? It seems very weak for this class. Any advice will be welcome.

What are the rules for your character creation? (Stats, allowed sources, traits, etc.)

Keep in mind you get bonus spells for a high Charisma. So you'll have 2 spells per day, and if you go for broke and start with a 20 Charisma, you'll bump that up to 3. Of course, any caster deals with these issues at low levels; you'll probably want to pick up a crossbow and use that for a while.

I don't know if your DM would appreciate it, but you could get really familiar with the rules for Psychic Duels. Initiate Psychic Duel is a 2nd level spell and effectively removes an opponent from the fight while the two of you duke it out in a mindscape, but your allies can still attack the enemy's physical body while it's stationary and unable to defend itself. If I remember correctly, you're better off in a psychic duel if you have high mental scores, so it's an effective way for a small sized character like your gnome to defeat a big huge beat stick.

Thank you for the quick ad! This character is being used pathfinder society play. So everything that is legal for that. I didn't think I got bonus spells for my cha. Also I do have that at a 20.

OK, for PFS with a 20-point buy, you could do 8/14/14/10/7/20 for your stats. Grab big spells like Color Spray, Grease, and Murderous Command to make the most out of your few spells. Take the Psychosomatic Surge or False Flanker tricks to help out your melee teammates early on, and fill the rest of your turns with a light crossbow.

That's a good option, but I am looking into a character that helps himself more than the other pc's. I was thinking of mask misery to protect myself. The cult master sounds really neat to help my allies have a better attack, but I really going for my guy to cause the enemy to give up, attack it's own allies or fail will saves from spells that harm it in some way like phantom killer I think it's called.

The Cult Master archetype isn't allowed for use in Pathfinder Society.

Well darn. I still want to be the face of the party with skills. No combat other than spells.

How about playing bard? You can have lots to do as a caster bard.

Or... PFS has lots of wands that you can get for prestige. Consider being a wand monkey if you want more spells per day as a caster mesmerist or bard.

Hmm

I wouldn't build a mesmerist as a primary spellcaster. They don't have enough spells. I think they are meant to use painful stare and fight as well as cast spells.

If you want a mental domination spellcasting build, try a kitsune (use favored class) crossblooded undead/fey sorcerer.

You can still be face of party very easily with this as well.

I think I am going full mesmerist, and will use wands. With a high charisma it should be very easy. I am having issues with the stats however. I know I don't need strength, but as a gnome (which I could change to halfling if it is better somehow), it drops even lower.

Gnomes are probably better for your build then halflings if you focus on using debilitating Illusion spells like Color Spray and Shadow Evocation/Conjuration.
