I'm a big fan of animate dead at 3rd level (for making mounts and meat shields) and divine power at 4th, but there are plenty of other good 4th level spells like freedom of movement that'll make you more versatile if you don't need or want a strict firepower increase.
You casting animate dead your not going to be a paladin for a long time.

I personally like Shield of Faith (saves money on a ring when not smiting), Bladed Dash, Haste, and Divine Power/Dimension Door.
D Door opens up the feat chain that lets you get not pounce.
Two Handed is the best option, but use a sword that can be one handed in case you want the AC from a shield.
STR 16 (10)
DEX 11 (1)
CON 14 (5)
INT 13 (3)
WIS 7 (-4)
CHA 14 (5)
Go human, racial bump to STR.

Dazzling Blade is great on action economy, thematic, and a decently powerful debuff (blinding). Also gives bonuses a DEX-based paladin might enjoy, and lasts for some time if not discharged.

It would usually be kind of tough for a Paladin to really get much use from a level 1 spell with a save though.
On the other hand, that makes me think of a Paladin using metamagic traits to make Persistent Dazzling Blade a level 1 spell, then taking Spell Focus feats and wearing a whole string of 1000gp Pearls of Power. Because of the way the spell works they could easily throw it twice in one round if necessary, forcing four saves to avoid blind.
